    Measurement Help Please!

    Hello Everyone,

I have a Gen III Viper and I am working on a project to possible build the first Gen V (Appearance) convertible viper. I am here to ask if someone would be kind enough to help me with the measurement I have posted. It is just a measurement of part of the hood. Any help would me much appreciated. Thank you!

The arc or the chord? Both??

Sorry, but I can't do it until tomorrow...by then, you may have the answer.

The Chord of the measurement please and thank you. Also thank you City for posting the image. As I have not yet made 15 posts yet (Noob) I was not able to post a direct link.

I don't know how tech-savy you are but... you could always buy a 3d model of it and then measure everything/anything you want taking into account the scale of the 3d model. Of course you'd need the software.

Ok, let me try and understand this. You're wanting to make a GEN V into a convertible, or make new body panels that resemble a GEN V to put onto a GEN III convertible?

Thank you all for your input.
VYPR BYT, That is exactly what I am doing. I am working with Inspire Composites (inspirecomposites dot com) to build the body off of a 3D models he purchased. I presented the idea to him and I we have been rolling with it since. He has a CNC machine and is going to be making the parts.
mjorgensen Thank you very much for the measurement but I need the Chord. Which means I need a straight line from point to point without the body curve included. Thank you though I do appreciate your time.
Austin, I am having the front half (From the Fender forward) of the new gen V Viper made from fiberglass. Nate from Inspire Composites is currently taking the 3D model and modifying it to match the door / rocker lines of the older Gen III/IV. That way it will be a direct fit without having to do much bodywork. The front end is going to be like the new viper as the clam will open forward. Here is a rough 3D model that he threw together so that we could get a feel for the project. www dot youtube dot com/watch?v=_Sp94Td9J7c&feature=youtu.be
Once I receive the Fiberglass parts I will be creating a build thread on here for all to watch if interested. I know this project is not something everyone will like or agree with, but I think it will be a fun. Thanks again!

So, if anyone could get just a straight line between the two points that would be great! Thanks!

I measured a 2014 SRT, new on a showroom floor.

The chord was 101.9 cm as measured from the hood crease to hood crease at the very front edge of the hood. NOTE: The hood is wider than the above number by about 3 cm on EACH side as measured on the surface which is actually the hypotenuse of a triangle as the hood falls off at an angle.

    Good luck !!

You are welcome. My concern is that the Gen V hood has complex bends...and, therefore, my description does not tell the whole story...especially as the hood is wider than the fascia where they meet.

The measurements are used to scale the 3D model properly. As long as that measurement is correct, all of the other curves and lines should be to scale. Thanks again

Very nice chris955! Did you get a scan of the under-side of the clamshell hood?
