any cabin heat issue on 2014 TA ?

hi, total newb to vipers…just got a orange TA , possibly one of the last ones , #66, coming in a few weeks from boston…

anyway, on the gen5, how bad is the cabin/foot well/drive tunnel area heat ? and to keep the ext from messing the paint on the door corner…

i m wondering what is the easiest thing to do ? wrap the exh.pipes….. then
dynamat under the carpet ? vs. lizardskin ceramic sparay ? (latter messy… more work but which works better? )

also , on gen 5, is the oem ext. with x crossover ? i don't' get why that would make the exh. tubing hotter….. does it sound better to goto corsa w/o the X crossover ?

    tnx for your help all,

    james R.

    Welcome to the forum!

No cabin heat issue even during 2 days on the road course in 90 degree temps. I could feel the carpet on the sides next to the sill were hot but it did not create a problem for me or the A/C to deal with. Street use has also been a non-issue, but you do quickly learn not to touch the sills with bare legs when they're really hot!

Enjoy your TA, and I hope you get a chance to track it to the point you are very comfortable in it. The car is truly exceptional on the track, and remarkably well suited to street use as well.

I have yellowing on my white SRT around the sills, only on plastic pieces though.

Swapped for Corsa exhaust which is supposed to be cooler.

Interior temps are just fine. The AC is brutally cold.

6 hours each way to Houston and back at about 70 to 80 mph, no heat issues and we had to Gen 3 cars prior to the 14. The Gen 5 is not as hot or loud as the Gen 3.

    Ok...will drive first then ....
How is the corsa vs oem sound??
Maybe there can be some wrap on the exh.pipe near the sill to keep from heating up...?

Corsa sounds amazing, Bruce H took a ride in mine and will be ordering if that is any indication

Your biggest worry is right before the catalytic converter, that is where i have seen yellowing

Never noticed any heat issues on my TA. I'm running Belangers and Corsa and love the sound.

The single largest reduction in heat is with the Belanger headers. They delete one of the cats. The remaining cat is a high flow cat. The diff is not marginal, it is huge.

    Hey James,

Good luck with 66. I almost bought that car about a month ago, but decided on black 32. I know a lot of the guys are saying no heat issues in cabin. I have 2 gen V's and I def notice increased heat down by legs. Not bad when highway driving, but as soon as slower driving or stop at red light temp goes up. A/C helps eliminate it, but I am a windows guy, hate a/c so I notice it. Don't know of any solution but if you find one please post.

    tnx for the replies/info...
my understanding was that the heat was coming from the floor and drive train hump... and some from outside but...
so, i thought maybe if we can put some more heat shield down in the cabin floor/midwall, it'd take care of some of it...
and decrease the heat transfer from the exh. to the body by wrapping the exh. pipes if possible, esp. out toward the end where it tends to supposedly yellow the body/ by the corner/door...

now on the belanger header... what do you mean by removing one of the cats ? i assume there is 2 cats per side then ?
if i just want a bit louder, i was just planning on going with catback/corsa... not for heat issues but more more 'music'...

will email johnB.... how difficult is it to install the corsa.... i mean, i read it's tight down there but can a joeblow muffler shop do this ?
i have access to acperformance and SPT here in so.calif. i just found out...

There is some hot air that shoots out near your feet at the pedals. It's been mitigated significantly compared to older gens from what I understand but it's still there.

James, your screen name looks familiar, which other forums do you frequent? I have Orange #63 and the heat in the cabin is a non-issue. It is not any hotter than my '03 Z06's transmission tunnel. However I am having Dan Cragin installing Dynamats this week to quiet down the freeway drone and if you are in Socal, you should ping Dan at Special Performance Team and he is not only the best but also a forum sponsor.

hey bruce…ok, i'm interested in putting on some dynamat with him too… let me know how yours turns out….is there dynamat for noise vs. heat ? or is it same item…. i figure the one with aluminum sheet would do for my purpose of minimizing heat but…

i'm sometimes on nsxprime and porsche turbo forum…jump around…too many good forums, not enough time…

what i have not gotten much info is re: the paint yellowing on the door sill…. is there some way to reduce that chance by wrapping the ext. pipe in that area ? or just putting some heat shielding material near there above the pipe ? it looks like it's an issue but no one seems to have found a simpler way, other than as a byproduct of changing header/exhaust…. too $ if i'm just interested in heat/paint issue…

when i get the car in a few weeks from boston, will try to join the voa drives…

Did the car from Colonial Dodge?

    Just curious.

  18. #18
The GenV really doesn't have a significant heat issue.

I've driven mine for 12hr stretches without baking my feet.

It does get warm; but really never uncomfortable.

  19. #19
Actually nevermind I see it did come from Chris @ Colonial.

I have seen your car in person a couple months ago when I picked my GTS up.

It's beautiful and absolutely was well cared for and prepped while it was there. I hope they treated you well because it was a pleasure doing business with them.

This thread is useless without pics!!

yup, from colonial in hudson..i used to live there off causeway st. years ago…. i tried to get it from the big dealer in tx but he just sold his last orange TA so… i found this somehow and they sold it for $113K… i guess it's an ok deal..i didn't even negotiate…. i think it may be one of the last orange TAs left... haven't seen the car other than in picture off their web sight….
hope it comes to calif with the front splitters intact…. it looks pre low…. was wondering whether they should take that off for transport… i'm using reliable… same folks that brought the car to them initially…the orange trucks….

  21. #21
I really wouldn't worry about it.

Getting the car on/off the truck should be a non-issue for the splitters.

I actually considered buying it instead of my car. The paint is SUPER, panel fitment was nice. I wasn't going over it with a fine tooth comb; but I looked over it several times and it was square with nice consistent panel gaps; etc.

You really have a nice car coming

Welcome aboard...in coming from my Gen I to the Gen V I have noticed zero in cabin heat issues. In my Gen I I installed Random Tech high flow cats along w/ 3" Belanger exhaust & it greatly reduced in cabin heat...

No heat issues and there are a few Orange TAs left ( we sold 7 , but have 2 still left ) as well as a few whites ( we have three). You are not going to have any concerns with heat, but I would find out about how the car is being shipped, because there is alot of problems if the Dealer uses a broker , since they often switch to open trailers and there could be damage to the front splitter. Make sure it goes enclosed from the minute it leaves --- main reason we use only our own enclosed trailers. Just a precautionary note as it happens way too often with open trailers and your concern is well founded in my experience.

I thought Reliable was enclosed only? Were talking the same company that handles the GenV delivery to the dealers. The big orange toy trucks
