Aftermarket head unit/sub with factory amp issues

I've had problems installing aftermarket headunits into cars that had factory amps. Usually it's just a matter of bypassing and moving on. But with my 01 RT/10 i'd like to use the factory amp to drive the system.....at least for now. I have the head unit and the sub, is there going to be a problem when i install them? or will they just drop in with no special wiring problems? If there are special wiring issues, can someone explain what i need to do? a wiring diagram would be perfect!!! Thanks in advance!

When you remove the stock unit the pin outs are displayed on the back which should help you. I got a mobile radio installer to fit mine but he used the factory amp as I asked.

I suggest a hu with front rear and sub outputs. Cut off the rca ends and wire them directly into a mating connector you can find on eBay. The factory amp is low level rca input. Then use your sub rcas into a separate sub amp. The factory amp is really just a regular amp, no fancy controls or busses or fibers or anything. Should work out just fine for you.

When I installed my aftermarket head unit, I connected it to the stock amp. It's good enough for my audio needs. Some cars do have amps that have electronic lockouts (I had a Hummer that had that), which makes it a lot more complicated, but on the Viper, except fot the stupid DIN connector, it's an easy job.

There's a decent amount of info out there on wiring in a head unit and using the stock amp, it's doable but not exactly plug and play.
The DIN connector will be the toughest part IMO. The link below is a decent start.

I believe someone on the alley drafted up some pretty good diagrams via Paint.
Do a little digging, you should be able to come up with everything you'll need to know.

I'm not afraid of a little splice and dice, i just like to have an idea what I'm doing before i start. I've installed plenty of stereos in my day, but the factory amps always cause some level problems depending on the vehicle. I refuse to venture to the other site after my last visit and reading some pretty disgusting, salacious bullshit, but i always forget about the Alley.

I do plan on replacing the factory amp in the future, but i recently blew out the factory subwoofer. I'm just looking for a quick fix until after the NVE1 trip and i want a head unit that i can stream music from my phone since the factory radio is generally poor and it's a long drive from Phoenix without decent tunes!!!

The factory amp is designed like a regular aftermarket amp, so you shouldn't have any issues. Here's an install post of mine on VCA: http://forums.viperclub.org/threads/...lpine-CDE-102)
