Anyone own one here? (The good, bad and ugly please...) I know they don't make um anymore... but....
The Roadster specifically...
Thinking about my next car if no Viper Vert or, if I don't like what SRT/Dodge comes up with.

I've never owned one but tested one. The sound is fantastic. I love the seating and interior and dash. Unfortunate to lose the gull wing doors though. There are good deals out there.
It's great to go topless!
Consider an SL65 with Renntech ECU and Transmisssion upgrades--super nasty.

I'm like policy, tested only. Loved everything about it.
Good Video, think that's the first one I have ever seen that does not mention anything about old truck engines, phew.....they get it at last
Yeah I hear ya. Can't seem to find much wrong with it. I'm looking for something the Mrs. can drive too. I am super curious about a Viper Vert but.... we will see. I'm a buyer for the SLS in the winter (Dec, Jan... I would like to see the prices fall a touch more) So, could be the last Viper summer (17+ years now)...going to enjoy it!
I live next to the largest Benz dealer on the planet and, they are awesome for future SLS service.
They couldn't have got me in the car faster and threw me the keys. Put my butt right in the Final Edition GT (225K plus) unlike those Dodge dealers.... LOL
Going to keep my eye out for a 2012 (In my price range) Silver with a Sand or Black int.
The one they had I liked (had 4 Roadsters) but, I don't think the red/black interior is the way to go...
I tend to keep my car toys for a long time. I think the SLS won't lose much on style points as time goes by. ( Yes.... tough not to get those gull wing doors but, this is SoCal!)
Plus, Plus I was at the 'Ring back when they were under cover testing the SLS. I can't get that AWESOME 190mph+ engine note out of my mind to this day! They were running two cars flying laps... (Will try to dig up a video)

I like it in that designo silver color and I like it in red.
Getting very serious about these cars now ...in case the Viper doesn't drop the top to my liking....
Anyone else here have experience with these?
Life won't be the same without a Viper after 17+ years....... But I will manage
So you got one? If so, congrats! I guess life is too short to not try many different cars.
What did you do with your Viper?
Hi Eddie!
Yeah it's a different car for sure in a really great way. It took me about 6 months to chase down the one I really wanted. (only 2700 total US and under 800 Roadster's, which is my must have!) Best part is you can still get 2 sets of clubs in the back!
I had to send the Viper(s) on down the road after 17 years & 127,081 miles. I needed a car that can do it all, There are just no compromises with the SLS. It has the best sound track coming out of a V-8 you could ever imagine. This one has the special order designo Magno Alanite Matte paint & designo natural Leather Light Brown interior with the throwback woven seats reminiscent of the 1950's SL interior. With Viper not going the direction I wanted, (Vert, paddles, design) it was time to move on. Now I have to petition the SoCal club to let a German Wiper in! LOL. That is what I will miss the most. The people in the club and events are great! ( I will stalk you from time to time. ) You never know... if the Viper continues to evolve maybe I will be back but.......
oh and I will miss the VOA vs. VCA chatter in the omelette lines.... right Viper Girl
The only thing I kept from the car was the aluminum "soda can" ring (fit in the ashtray) dearly departed Dave Cawthorne machined for me. I will NEVER let that go! Miss you Dave!
Extra Special shout out to Lance and JonB! 2 guys that go way beyond with their generosity!

Hi Newport,
Congrats my friend! You finally did it (nice to know you valued my opinion), your new car has many of the technical features I was hoping to see in the Gen V, dual clutch transmission with paddle shift, 15.4" front brake discs with carbon ceramic option, convertible with power top, awesome exhaust sound and a perfect combination performance/driveability/creature comfort (how about that "airscarf").
You can even let your Lady drive it.
And finally, as you correctly stated, the best thing about the Viper Community isn't the car, it is the people.
Enjoy your new car my friend, I am very happy for you!

Was that second to last picture taken in 1975? Great car, and I understand the so cal thing, but I would have to have the wings!
Congratulations! You gotta get what makes you happy, right?
I think in a few years the Viper will come out with the 8 speed and convertible so just hang in there
Congrats
Well done. Congrats.
such a sexy car
THE IGNORE FEATURE WORKS, TRY IT...
Thanks again. It's nice to have something as rare as this. Only 884 Roadsters. I do miss my Viper.... a little.
Well, I finally had a chance to go for a spirited ride with my friend Newport Viper in his AMG-Mercedes Benz SLS Roadster last Sunday. We had perfect weather for the occasion.
What an impressive car! Great looks, amazing performance, quite comfortable for a sports car and the most incredible dual clutch 7-speed transmission, what a marvel of engineering; as much as I like the whole car I was most impressed with this remarkable transmission, lightning quick yet smooth upshifts, downshifts with accompanying throttle blip not to mention the sublime exhaust note. I was also favorably impressed with the super quick operation of the power top and once the car was in closed mode, it was rather quiet in the cockpit.
Overall a much more livable alternative to any Viper and for the upscale few who have the coin, I can highly recommend this car.
Counterpoint: I asked my friend as we were driving around: “so, if the Gen V Viper had a convertible version equipped with this same DCT transaxle, would you have stayed with Viper?” His answer: “Well, Hell Yeah! But it was time to move up to something more exclusive”.
I've heard nothing but praise about the SLS. Everyone states that the car is a great GT cruiser. That said, I just can't get over the subjective looks of the thing. Mercedes really knows how to design nice vehicles aesthetically like the SLR McLaren and SL63 AMG models. The SLS looks like the ugly friend of those two. Beautiful backdrops on your cruise above though.

That exact mule at 9 mins spent the night here in Highlands Ranch, Colorado a week during development when MB was doing high altitude testing. I walked around it in the parking lot one evening as my office was 1/2 a block from that hidden hotel. All I can say is it had a lot more than a Viper transmission surround that was originally from a Viper. I love the original gulllwing and verts from decades ago, and anxiously awaited the new rebooted version as a fan since I could not afford a new one. When I saw a new one, the gull, the dimensions make the car look a little weird. It is a big car. Hoped the vert would make it look better as the front is looks so long on the coupe with the back looking stubby. The vert looked a little weird too as it looked too squashed. Dunno! Exhaust note is awesome and power is awesome. My friend took me for a ride in his Gullwing. Fun car to drive. MB just hasn't grabbed me, really any of their new vehicles. I want to love them but they fall short in my book.
I recall seeing this picture (below) in Road and Track a few years ago. I was amazed at how much longer that SLS hood appears next to the GenV Viper. Both are sharp looking cars that stir souls in very similar but different manners.
