It does seem like 800 is the new number. Otherwise the magazines will just say, "Well, I can get 700+ for half the monies..."

I've always boasted on the power my Gen 3 Dodge Viper puts out and most impressive the fact it has been engineered without the need to force a bunch of air into it. For Chrysler to have developed an engine with power that exceeds that of our beloved latest Vipers is downright immoral regardless of how they pumped it out of the Hellcat.. Anybody can boost HP with forced induction. The thought of anyone having to do something as absurd as to pull the beautiful V10 out a Viper and stick in any other engine with turbochargers, intercoolers, aftercoolers and a hundred feet of exhaust tubing wrapped around the engine bay for hp gain is sick! Could it be that our engineers have, or are close to hitting the ceiling with the latest hp improvements with the V-10 as naturally aspirated?? I personally would hate to see anything above the exhaust manifolds obstructing the view of our beautiful engines. There is no other car built I'm aware of where one can still so plainly see the entire engine. Everytime I show off my engine I'm reminded of the beautiful Rolls Royce or Allison or the Packard V-12 engines that powered the PT boats. The engine is, in itself a work of art. However I can identify with those who want the most power available in their Vipers regardless of appearance and what I feel for mine is secondary to others. SO, Chrysler, (Ralph), if necessary please consider the thought of engineering a centrifugal blower as out of sight as possible. Up the serpentine belt to drive it or increase the hydraulics and pipe some fluid to rotate it, theres room for an air to air or coolant to air cooler without being too obvious. Blow thru the 1,000 HP number and we are on top, with the 707 hp Hellcat and a 1,000 HP Viper Supercar! You will sell the heck out of both and we can have our bragging rights back.

I think you are seeing the ceiling as far as the EPA goes in its current form. Direct injection could be used as long as they can figure out carbon build up above the valves and a dry sump can help also. Tuning is what will always hold it back.
