Read a magazine article where Mr. Giles said close to 700 hp, so 690's sounds right.

    Guess we will see.

If not, I as will most will just mod their paid for Vipers for the power. You put out a 750 hp or 800 hp car new and suddenly you can't mod your existing Viper easily to achieve that. Much easier decision to make to justify a new one. But that is my opinion.
Your opinion is based on solely one thing, POWER, more HP. That alone will not sell the Viper. maybe to you, but Dodge is not catering to customers who want Hp, they are reaching out to all walks of life in the car world. In order to get that, you must diversify the brand and make it available to an array of tastes. Otherwise you will get a handful of buyers once again.
Most that say they want more Hp, want it just because. Not because they are gong to run out and buy one when it happens. Nope, no way. They are just wanting it so that their current and next decision is justified. I got the biggest and baddest or I own the brand with the biggest and baddest.
For 100+dineros, just HP wont cut it. Otherwise as per your quote, everyone would just keep what they have and add HP.

    Not that simple my friend.

If you open up a burger joint and just sell burgers, you wont make much money. You add variety and you get more people with different tastes. Its the elementary business tactic.

Understood and agree with most points, however if a people carrier in your line up is trumping the top dog on power, that top dog is really not what it should be. If that is their strategy, they will lose out. I have remanded positive for some time now but if the snake doesn't get a major injection of venom in the light of such power in the other dodge products, I do not see good things for it. Just saying, the Viper was about pure excess in every area but weight. It survives on outrageousness.

BTW you burger joint analogy is complete BS, look at Five Guys Burgers or even Chipotle Mexican. Small high impact menu but the best ingredients and large portions. There is a formula for success based upon that. that model fits the a Viper better than anything else.

Well, I personally think it is great to see the Hellcat come out with gobs of power. Shoot look at how much exposure it is getting. Hopefully some of that excitement will leech over and some of those who come in to look or research the Hellcat look over at the Viper. Hey, excitement sells. Shoot, I would wear a damn cheerleader outfit if it meant more Viper sales. The only thing I have to say about the Hellcat is to make sure you send one that has been thoroughly inspected for flaws and has freaking good/matching rubber on it before you send it to the press/magazine testers. What we don't want to happen is have another fiasco where hood pieces fall off, tires are mismatched, just overall poor QC.

Sorry, I think more horsepower is the answer. Viper loyalists bought Gen I solely on hp. I think there are a lot of GEN I,II and III owners who would move up to a 700hp Viper.Even with great discounts I have still not bought a Gen V. Mostly because I think Dodge might wise up and add 50 more hp to the 2015. If not I will just buy a leftover 2014. There will be plenty to choose from.

Horsepower is addictive, both physically and emotionally. Just got a notice from Ford that their 2015 Superduty 6.7 turbo diesel will now have 440 hp and 860 lb-ft of torque. I in no way need another F350, have a prefectly good truck with low miles and it does everything I need.

Having said that, I've called my local dealer to schedule a test drive and talk numbers as soon as one is available, lol. Addictions are hard to break

I got out of diesel trucks a couple years ago, but involved my my truck club. The Big Three are involved in a diesel torque war. It's incredible that these trucks stock are now putting out the numbers that heavily modded (and less reliably) trucks did less than 10 years ago.

I knew it! When Ralph was interviewed during this weekend's race at Watkins Glen and he drove the Hellcat to the track, he was asked about the horsepower. He just laughed and said it's ridiculous. I can't see Dodge letting their non-halo car have more power than their halo car...

Just wait until FI comes out for the Gen V

Ya'll be thinking "707 is cute"

I honestly don't see why anyone would still pay big bucks for a 60's or 70's muscle car anymore. Horsepower GAME ON !!!! I just wonder if it will be able to hook up.

It's my understanding that the Hellcat will be Challenger and Charger only. I could be wrong....

This is a serious car. Heavy or not.
