    Viper blue paint code

Hey guys, I was wondering if I could get the paint code of viper blue. I am getting a car painted and I am wanting to snag the paint code as it's a possibility I am going to get it done in viper blue (no, it's not a viper, or even a Dodge/Chrysler product).

Any info on this color? How hard is it to paint, maintain, color match? or is it like any other paint job?

    thanks

I am currently trying to match my 96 GTS viper blue and its been headache with no definite results yet. There is a thread that I opened on here if you look it up.
There are as Jon pointed out, different variations depending on year. I cannot speak for the other years but, if your trying to match the 96 GTS blue, good luck !
There are too many variations within that years color and matching it is either a stroke of luck or your one of a few that has a straight forward color blue that most matched.
I for one have a blue violet color where as my other 96 GTS sitting side by side in the garage with this one was a blue pearl color.

If your not , as your not I see, picky on the variation, then just grab a color and go for it. Your not trying to match anything so, its easy enough.

Painting it must be pretty straight forward but, not sure there. I am sure someone with painting background can chime in and help there.

The car will be completely color changed/painted, so no I am not picky on the viper blue shade exactly...as long as it can be matched down the road if there is damage and it has to be repainted. I *think* colors can be matched to a tee with a Vin number? Or at least the paint shop did that with my Charger when I needed the bumper fixed

Even the same color from different brands will look different. The original GTS blues were made by AkzoNobel, Sikkens is their retail brand and will give the closest match. Since you're doing a full repaint, brand doesn't matter all that much. Touch ups or repaints down the road will probably only match if the repair is done with the same brand that the car was painted with.

ouch....sounds troublesome. Is this issue with a lot of different colors, or more with those with pearl in it or what?

96/97 is PBE. The paint code on every car should be on the inside of the drivers door.

yes, it might be on the inside of the driver's door, but I don't have access to a viper blue car at the moment

The 1996-97 blue "Viper GTS Blue" paint code is PBE. (Power Blue Electric)
The Mopar sales code for it is SBE.
The universal Sherwin-Williams paint code used by many body shops as a cross-reference is SW 51537.

You can buy a small touch up brush bottle from your local dealer MoPar # 4864082AB. About $10. Many high-end body shops can do a spectrographic type of analysis to duplicate it.

Are you in IL ? Once of the very best on the planet is Fifth Dimension, Scott Miller, in Champaign IL. I bet he would even help advise your local paint guy what to do..

    Hey Jon,

Can you PM me Scott Millers number. I would love to pick his brain to settle my paint problem I have been having with my body shop. He has tried PPg and the PBE code and it does not match. We looked at the color match cards from Sikkens and none matched my 96 GTS and finally I got a contact number from a member here on a body shop they used and matched but, they used BASF Diamont and when we matched a color chip to the car and had the paint sent to us from them, the color was way off. Its been a nightmare so far trying to match my GTS bue. It is more of a Blue Violet than a Blue.
headache I'll tell you. Darth, if you end up finding a color you go with, make sure you keep the formula for it and th company you bought it from, otherwise good luck trying to match it later. Pearls with flakes are a mess.

Ya, I spoke to the paint shop and they spoke with their suppliers and they can get the Sherwin Williams. He is going to price it out to see what the paint will cost, and if it costs more than just a regular paint. It is for a 69 gto convertible...I am not super sticky on the color, but I don't want a baby blue and dont want a navy blue.

    So far I have:

    Viper blue (Dodge)
    Liberty Blue (GTO color)
    Acapulco blue (Ford)
    Patriot blue pearl (Dodge)

    I am not sure

All I can say is that when I had my 1996 GTS side sills replaced under warranty because of corrosion, they used PPG first, then redid with BASF and both were close but no cigar. When they finally listened to me and used what I told them to use, Sikkens, it was perfect. Maybe the Sikkens paint card was faded but doesn't it make sense that the guys that originally made the 1996 GTS Blue would still know their own formula?
