Airbox Clips Falling Off....

Every now and then I loose one on my '96 RT. I put a new one in today....and found it in the driveway...20 feet later.

Has anyone come up with a way to keep these on the airbox?

Mine do this too. The airbox seems to be 'changing' and causing the clips to not fasten properly. When my last clip falls off I'm going to order a JMB intake and be done with the clips altogether.

They are the same clips they use on a GM truck.

Yes Randall...in fact, the ones I'm using are in a GM bag. (I don't let the Viper see the bag...lol!)

I wouldn't be so annoyed if I lost one a year....but geez...this time I didn't even get out of the driveway!

Do this:
-Get a tube of black (or clear) silicone sealer.
--Clean the pin-channels for the hinges on the airbox
---Put a DAB of sealer about the size of a pea on each of the UNLATCHED hinge-pin feet at Top and Bottom of box.
----Let the sealer cure for a day. Then latch.

This should stop the loss even if the pop-in pin channel is broken.

Maybe through the years the clips that fall have worn out some and expanded from clipping on and off that many times.

Try using a channel lock and squeeze the clip together and make it smaller some and then try clipping it again and you should be fine.

I've noticed the problem gets worse, when you install a K&N filter (which is just a slight size thicker than the old OEM….but who doesn't make this mod!)

Anyhow, the pin channels on the air box itself, should be looked at closely. Often they sort of "stretch out" or a tiny little piece breaks off… so the clips never really
"snap" into place in the pin channels. Of course the other end snaps nicely, so the weak spot holding the pins just can't take the tension… then the clips become very prone to popping off. Jon's recommendation works well.
