Outstanding! Is the SRT Hotline on the drivesrt page?
A lot of folks are not broke or jealous. I genuinely do not like the styling of the new car. I've seen multiple in person of various colors and while the yellow and black color appeals to me it doesn't have the look I want. I have not driven one but realistically that doesn't matter since I can't get past the look. It has a couple positives for me but more negatives. Now if it resembled the volado viper more it would be difficult not to pursue one.
Signed,
Not too broke and definitely not jealous
Fair enough. But evil malicious statements were made by some (not all) prior gen guys; that's a fact. The reason I gave for most (not all) was my opinion. Clearly doesn't apply to you.
In fact, I think the OP in this very thread was trying to stir up something; and probably based on a misunderstanding of the dialogue.
For folks who do like the styling, check out car number 15 (LE); I started a new thread on it. Over 30k off MSRP. Incredible deal.
We all have opinions, and looks are subjective. But, you rarely (if ever) see someone go into the 1st, 2nd, 3rd-4th gen forums and complain about how any previous generation Viper looks, performs, or drives. Gen 5 owners could just as easily go around and act like that, but they do not. I never understood why so many Viper fans (regardless of gen ownership) feel like it is okay to bash the newest car, in a club forum about Vipers. I'd expect such on a Corvette forum.
BTW called the SRT Hotline and the book and flag are on the wayIt does always surprise me when I here a Gen 2 owner say they don't like the styling. It's almost like a Ford GT40 owner saying he doesn't like the styling of the 05-06 FGT. If it's the front fascia than maybe but everything else is nearly identical and updated in an extremely tasteful way.
Good points Flatout &Tony...I don't know why all the hate for our Gen V's from some prior owners...to each his own but the newest reincarnation of the snake is by FAR the best!!!
This is a really great point. Me for example, I don't like the Gen1 look at all, but can honestly say have never even looked in the Gen1 forum section and the last thing on my mind is to slam one. Along the same lines, I don't like the new corvette either, but have no interest in going into vette forums to browse or saying something. If I don't like the look of a car or the car in general, why would I be posting in its forum dedicated forum?
I think I've already answered that question.![]()
Ditto. How many posts on the other forum did we see prior Gen V where people said bring back Gen II styling or make a Gen II with Gen IV powertrain? Well, SRT listened in my opinion. Sure, no vert or ACR yet, but that is 'yet.' Who knows? I hope the Gen V chapter is not closed because it is the best platform to evolve on the Viper has had yet. I wish I was in a position to help SRT out now, but I'm just not there quite yet. Almost though!!![]()
I do see that a lot however that does not apply to all Gen 1-4 owners. The car has been on the receiving end of a lot of criticism and the constant bashing and rehashing of what Dodge should have done has gone overboard, I will give you that. And absolutely, looks are in the eye of the beholder. We all have different taste.
Why would it surprise you? We all have different tastes in vehicles. There are a lot of reasons why I dislike it visually however that is my opinion. There are only a couple visual parts I really do like (The hood being one of them). Not trying to throw the thread off topic though. To each's own.
Because they look so similar. It just surprises me didn't say there was anything wrong with it.
I am not seeing this hate I guess.
I see people state they don't like some things about the exterior styling, or some things about the transmission/gearing (gen V owners even) I've seen a lot of complaints about the pricing and mentions about wishing for more HP.
But I don't see a bunch of people bashing the Gen V, hating the car. Saying how it sucks? Maybe I am missing all of that. I think everyone will agree the Gen V is the most powerful and has the nicest interior of any Viper made. I don't see how anyone could dispute that. But just because some people wouldn't pay (in some cases quite a bit) to go from a perfectly good Gen 1, 2, 3, or 4 Viper into a Gen V doesn't mean they hate they car. It simply means they don't see the value in maybe upwards of another $100,0000 and their current Viper to get into a V or can't afford to.
Where are all these posts by members saying they hate the V?
I wonder if hate is too strong a word, but you don't see a ton of negativity from prior Gen owners towards the GenV and in particular to new GenV owners?
I actually struggle understanding why someone even posts in the GenV section if they don't own one, are about to own one or are seriously considering one. Think about it, are their many posts in the gen2 or gen3/4 forums that have consistent posters complaining about the cars in some way shape or form, then to find out they don't own one let alone have driven one or in many cases even seen in person? Answer is No. They tend to be more about specific people either trying to solve a problem, understand someone's experiences or general interest in getting one.
As I said earlier, I guess I could rant all day long about things I don't like on cars I don't own, never driven or can't afford, but why would I do that and who is it helping?
See the tab at the top left of the page that says "New Posts"
That is how I browse the forums. I see threads in all sections. I post replies and start threads in most sections. I don't limit myself to just the Gen IV section because that is what I own. I am a Viper owner. A Viper enthusiast. Not a 2008-2010 Viper owner and enthusiast. If members want to limit what they view and discuss to only what they own, that is fine. Their loss.
Why are people so vocal about the Gen V? Because it's still living and breathing. It's still evolving. It's the latest and greatest. You don't have to be an owner to browse, reply, discuss or share your concerns.
Am I going to voice my opinion on what I would do differently to a Gen I-IV? No. It' a finished chapter, a closed book. The cars are built. It's said and done.
What don't I like about the Gen I? The motor and lack of creature comforts. What do I like a bout the Gen I? The lack of creature comforts could be fun from time to time.Kind of raw and in your face. It's the original!
What don't I like about a Gen II? The interior and crudeness. What do I like about the Gen II.. The crudeness is kinda cool![]()
What don't I like about a Gen III? Coupe was only 1 year and the hoods are dated IMO. What do I like about the III, the motor and aftermarket.
What don't I like about a Gen IV, the lack of aftermarket and dated interior that lasted 8 years. What do I like about the IV? The ACR and stock power for a 8 year old car.
What don't I like about the Gen V? The headlights, front end, and cheap looking engine bay that hides the awesome engine. What do I like about it? The interior, paint, overall quality. Does this make a Gen V a bad car? No. Does this mean I am talking trash about it? No.
Maybe the Gen V owners who are on the defense need to relax a bit. They own the "best" Viper to date. It just may not be for everyone. And just because everyone isn't praising every little thing about it doesn't mean they hate the car or that it's a bad car.
Telling non owners not to reply in the V section is just stupid IMO. If you own a V it doesn't make you any better than someone who has a well used Gen I or II.

I see, you believe your opinions are a service to help the car manufacture because you believe it is still being shaped and can be changed? Keep that thought and ask yourself how many changes took place during a particular models production cycle? Take the Gen3 for example between 2003-2006. Any changes of note due to forums comments from folks that had not purchased one? Gen4? again, NO. Maybe this time it will work though...
ok. I should add I did not say don't voice an opinion in forums if you don't own one. I said I am surprised by those that don't own one, or are not looking at getting one, or don't have a genuine interest in getting one or can't afford one. must admit, big difference, right. If Dodge/SRT, I am interested in opinions of those that represent legitimate buyers and that was my main point. Opinions of those with no interest in upgrading to a new model are ...
So, you gave your items of GenV you don't like (which is great), so are you saying if it had different headlights, front end (assuming grille) and no plastic covers in engine bay, you are now a buy? If so, then it is great feedback.
The problem is the grille opening, headlights and hood were major design reasons I wanted the car from the first one I saw at SLC. (agree with you on engine bay) So, now what does dodge/srt do with that feedback?
I followed the Viper from 1992. Wish I could have purchased one when they came out. They were a lot of money back then for a working stiff.
Over the years I followed the car in the forums, magazines, and in person whenever I could. I sat in all the generations and wasted a bunch of salesman's time, but never could buy one.
I remember in certain forums people bashed other generation Vipers and I could never understand why. I thought to myself if I could only have one I'd never talk trash about it!!!
Well, I finally pulled the plug and bought a 2013 Gen5 in black. I was going to name it, but didn't have a clue what to call it. I thought of some pretty tough names but they all sounded silly, so I waited.
When I picked up the car from the dealer and drove it home 400+ miles the trip was amazing. I had old ladies giving me the thumbs up, kids jumping and waving, and cars chasing me down to get a peak. I felt like I was a one car parade for the 400 miles!! It was absolutely bizzare the positive attention the car drew. I can't believe the number of people driving beside me taking selfies with their phones and me seeing my car in the phone.
When I stopped it was the same. The number of average Joe's that approached me respectfully and asked questions I could not answer was boggling. They were just absolutely jacked about the car(as I am) and they could care less that I did not have the answers. They just let their eyes feed on the car.
It became clear why Lutz and Iacocca produced this car. What a lift for a car company to have this Viper out there back in the early 90's. I could not imagine what it was like for the earlier generation owners rolling up in there cars!
I know my generation lacks the appeal of some earlier generation owners cars, but to the general public who has an interest in the Viper or just a fascination about a cool car they think we're all a "Rock Star
Consequently, that is what I named my car. That is how it makes me feel like when I'm behind the wheel.
The wait and purchase was worth it after all these years.
FLAT - Glad I could awaken your entitlement to the hardbound book. I even know the author and can probably get you an autograph!
You know, I have interacted with many thousands of Viper owners over the years, and here is one great fact of Viper ownership: I have NEVER heard any Gen Viper owner "diss" the owner of an older Gen, or diss the older car itself.
It really would be like dissing your older or younger brother..... Its like a family, but with Viper owners its a closer-family than SomeOtherBrands. Not 2nd-3rd-cousins. Its a brotherhood. If you own a NICE Gen 1, then I'm damn proud of you and your car!
I just have not heard or seen the alleged dissing. Thank God for my tunnel vision.

I just received my leather bound book for the purchase of my TA in January. Very nice book and protective case. I like the finish better then the store bought version. I am still loving my new Viper with 2500 miles so far.
This is what I think as well. For a car with not much more power and in my opinion not as nice exterior styling I wouldn't pay the difference to trade up from my Gen 4 just for nice interior. For me there is not enough bang for the buck difference to switch from the Gen 4 to Gen 5.
