    Oil Change

    I am getting ready to do my first oil change since I bought my Viper last year. I thought I read somewhere that you have to have the car flat to fully drain the pan. Is this true? On my other cars, I normally only lift the front end.

    yes it needs to remain flat to get as much oil out as possible.

    A few more tips; Warm up the engine before draining this helps the oil flow easier.
    Also if you are using a floor jack, I have to drive the viper up on some pieces of 2 X 6 boards before the floor jack will fit under the Viper, then 2 - 6 X 6 blocks under 4 frame corners to level and so I can fit underneath to get access to the filter and drain plug, either in the driveway or the garage floor depending on the weather.
    Bit of a pain but goes with the joy of ownership and doing the work yourself

    Thanks for the info! I am lucky, my floor jack will just go under the frame jacking points, so I don't need to drive it up on the 2 x 6's and it is not one of the low profile ones! I have a good, solid set of Jackstands that I got from my father, leftover from when he ran a Sunoco station back in 1950. You don't find them as solid as these stands any longer.

    Yeah; I am old school, I have jack stands but I put more trust in 6 X 6 blocks of wood

    Check post 69 http://driveviper.com/forums/threads...ot-Event/page3 there is a grey RT/10 up on ESCO 3-ton flat-top jack stands. These are very stable and the flat top is perfect for Vipers. There are some photos where the jack stands are not in use and you can get a good picture of their top. I've had these for 3 years and love them. Very stable, start the car while on the stands if needed, no problem.

    I use Race Ramps with the extensions. They work great for me.

    Make sure your oil catch pan can hold 10+ qts of oil most don't...or you will have a big mess on your clean floor.

    I thought my Vette was an easy oil change, but the Viper is easier....go figure. My 2012 Durango and 2011 Grand Cherokee are harder to change and a little messy too.

    All done! It took longer to get it on & off the jack stands. It is definitely easy, I am glad the filter is so easy. My 69 Roadrunner is a pain, the filter is right above the K member. Big mess when changing the filter.
