Just got a 6 year warranty for $2800.00

So I got a new daily, an AMG GLE63. It was way cheaper to get a 2018, just out of warranty, than a newer one with a year or so of warranty. There is "a warranty guy" on every forum, so I found him and got a 6 year deal on my AMG for $5500 or so. I talked to him a bit and was pretty satisfied this wasn't a sketchy deal (it's Fidelity, pretty well known and probably the most reputable as far as I know).

He was pretty reputable on the forum and there were stories of lightly modded cars that remained covered (ie: tuned and making a lot more boost, blows motor, no problems- though I doubt they knew). 3rd party warranty was also preferable to me because I'm going to tune it and do intake and downpipe and crank out about 725hp on pump gas and a good bit more on corn juice. A dealer will spot that immediately. Third party, not so much.

Just for giggles, I asked about my viper (13 w/ 8k miles). $3k for the same coverage (6yr/60k mile, $100 deductible)!

And then on top of it I got $200 off each one for doing 2 cars. So $2800 for the Viper and $5300 for the AMG. I feel pretty good about that. One of the two will drop a motor in the next 6 years, lol.

The only exclusions that bothered me were dash cracking/fading and headline fading/cracking/moisture. Everything else seemed to be covered like an OEM warranty would be.

(in all honesty, both cars make me a bit nervous about repair/bills. This will let me enjoy them more without anxiety, whether or not I come out ahead or not).

Edit: woops, forgot the contact info

A warranty with little to no parts availability may not work in your favor, depending on what breaks. Hopefully that gets a little better in the near future.

I'm not sure what the heck happens then. I'd be in the same boat I am now, I guess. I'm more worried about engine, trans, diff, etc.

    Great point Steve.

At my dealership we use Zurich as our reinsurance company. If factory parts are not available, we do cover aftermarket part replacements up to the cost of the stock replacement. Anything above and beyond is customer pay.

As I'm finding out, you pretty much have to start searching salvage yards and folks like Jon B that know where some things are hiding. Other than that, you are at the mercy of an aftermarket that doesn't offer much in the way of support for these cars.

Out of the list you provided, I'd be most concerned about the engine. Trans and diff parts can still be found, but I'd guess you'd be repairing what you already have rather than replacing the entire unit in most circumstances. Probably the same for the engine, but at least Prefix is still around.

It sure would be a shame if there was a shortage of OEM 8.4L cranks and I had to go to an aftermarket 9.0...

Lol, I just realized @Mikey is probably going to pop his top and lose the lid if he sees this.

I just bought a 5 year warranty. I think it would be silly not to if it is available.

    For the warranty?

  13. #13
Piece of mind is priceless! I have another year and a half left on my extended (factory) warranty. Will probably look for something else thereafter, but like others have said….what good is it if there are no parts available. I have heard of people waiting on parts for warranty work for months on end with their cars sitting at dealer garages getting damaged in the process. No thanks.

It's not like the parts break any faster or become any less available if you have a warranty.
The big stuff I'd even claim (engine, trans, diff, etc), I can go aftermarket if no OEM is availabe

Wow, that's cheap. I just paid $6k for the same from clay. However his is thru Ziegler and srt. It extends the factory warranty.

Did you not have the extended powertrain from the R28/29 recalls? Had my tranny replaced by dodge recently with no problems.

I do but it expires is a few months.

Hmm... I will look into this as my "Max Care" warranty is going to expire in 2024. I got what appears to be an extended warranty through my insurance company for my Rubicon 392, and the price was great - about $35 a year for the six years. That said, if I can extend the warranty on the ACR so that I'm not always stressing about taking it out, I'd be willing to pay for a reputable and responsive policy that allows me to bring it anywhere that licensed mechanics work. We have a few good Viper shops around, and if something goes south on me, I'd rather pay up front via a policy than be at the mercy of the dealership.

Yeah, I mean, it's hard to imagine I wont have a problem at some point in 6 years that is greater than $2800.

Nick, where do you recommend I get insurance for my 15 SRT?

The extended warranty is great, but many times you just cant get any Gen 5 parts to process a Gen 5 warranty claim.
I ask the dealer to tow the car back to the owner, if the parts are backordered. Then at least your car is safe from damage.

In many cases you can have the car repaired at a non-dealer, who can tap into Viper internet sales network and find the parts
that the dealer does not have.

I have about 10 Gen 5 parts that have been on backorder for over 8 months, the release date just changes as soon as it was reported to come
    available.

At least the AMG will have parts! Part of why i will be looking at Porsche and Mercedes for the next car most likely.

You can't go wrong with a turbo s. It's nowhere near as raw or engaging as the viper, but it does everything right

    hello all, 2 questions:
1- does anyone know if i can buy another maxcare before my 5 year warranty expires?
2- any idea of what parts are on backorder?
its kind of scary owning a car this new that you cant get parts for. local dealer also mentioned that parts have become a problem.
