    2017 ACR electrical issues

    Hey Guys,

Hope all is well, haven't posted in some time. But making a comeback after we had a kid. That kid stuff is tougher than i thought it would be lol. Anyways i got a 2017 ACRE and the Uconnect screen won't turn on. (Everything was working fine and it quit mid drive on me) The AC is stuck on full blast (my last setting when it failed on me) And the fuse in the trunk by the battery labeled "radio" just keeps blowing if i replace it. If I lock the doors, the gauge cluster screen just stays on and will kill the battery overnight. Spoke to Alex M in FL and he told me to check the driver side wire harness because they usually melt over there. Inspected it and it looks fine. I do have a max care warranty so not too big of a deal. Just really don't want the dealer touching my car. I am taking it to a friend's dealership in MA this Saturday (Ron Bouchard's in MA) (Ironically our New England President runs that place so that's a nice benefit). Just thought Id ask you guys if you have any recommendations on what I can let the dealer know to check.... Any advice is appreciated!

    Martin -

I'd just let them go through the car. See what they find.

Hey Martin. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Which Ron Bouchard dealership are you going to? I’m looking for another dealership for my car as well. The previous dealership we were going to is no bueno.

Hey Martin, do you have headers? If so your wire harness could have melted inside with no visible damage on the outside. Happened on my 2015. Thought I had a bad throttle position sensor. Drove the tech nuts till accidentally moved the harness with a test light connected. Light blinked on and off.

ViperGeorge, what did you wrap your wiring harness with to protect it?

I used DEI Extreme Cool Tubes. They come in different IDs and colors.

What size did you get for the wiring harness?
And do you cut the side open to get the wires inside and then tape it up?
Looks like it’s good up to 750 degrees

Honestly I don't remember what size I got, I would suggest measuring the OD of the harness and pick a tube that has a corresponding ID. And yes, I did just cut the tube lengthwise to get it around the harness. You could probably use another type of insulation as well. The cool tubes just seemed like the neatest and easiest insulation to use.

    Hey Chris,
Its the one in Fitchburg. No Viper Tech (I don't even know if "Viper Tech" still is even a term anymore...

    Hey George!
NO headers all stock, and I'm embarrassed to admit I have never even really driven the car hard lol. I looked at the wire hardness per Alex M's advice and unraveled the tape and did not see any evidence of melted wires. I have a feeling this is a module in side the dash, either the screen or something with the gauge cluster.
