Crank damper bolt Attention 2005 and 2006 Viper owners

Crank damper bolt...Attention 2005 and 2006 Viper owners

Combining 2 posts from a recent thread in the Generat section that should be of particulsr interest p to 2005 and 2006 owners:

"I liked the short article by Bob Woodhouse concerning the Viper that was crossing a bridge when it went "DOA".

    REMINDER to ALL Viper owners:

Periodically check the status of YOUR Viper's crank damper bolt...before it bites you in the Asp. This can be a potential issue with all five generations."

    AND

FURTHER NOTE FOR 2004-6 Viper owners:

"A WORD OF CAUTION for those using the 2005 and 2006 Service Manuals:

The crank damper bolt torque setting printed in those two Service Manuals is a quote from the 2004 manual which applied ONLY to the 2004 long, skinny damper bolt (hex head size 13/16" ) which was to be torqued to 130 ft-lbs.

Obviously, ALL of the other year Vipers with the short, fat damper bolt (hex head size 1 1/4" ) should be torqued to a higher level which is 250 ft-lbs."

    I hope this helps !!

Unfortunately, my post above did not include the necessary link to the original discussion that gave a rebirth to this old but important topic.

Furthermore, after I hijacked the main thread concerning the arrival of the latest Viper Quarterly magazine, the thread stayed off track...while including some useful info.

I apologize for sloppy posting...thanks JonB for your "headsup" reminder !!

Here is the link to the current origin of this discussion noting that my post is #11:
