That will depend on if you are NA , Boosted , and How much Boost or Nitrous you use ….
On NA that would be a safe bet .
Why? I'm sensing you have a line on some oversize pistons and before you pull the trigger on this "raging deal" you need to know if you can make them work. Otherwise, really no reason to go .030+ over to simply clean-up the bore.
Understood. I think you need to do something more radical to "achieve substantially more" CID. 030 to me is neh...these motors have enough NA CID to accomplish most tasks. To get real CID benefit from this odd engine means artificial displacement...or some form of stroker. But alas, those all have their pitfalls as well. Having been to the darks side and back, I'm now stepping back to a simpler solid NA build. I wish you the best. Just have fun with it all.
I looked for almost all possible options for my Gen 3 (stroker, destroke, SC, turbos) and ended up with a N/A project with slightly higher RPM than stock (6,700ish), stock-ish CID, 10.8:1 compression, 4:10 gears.. (and all related goodies; custom camshaft, ported heads, lightweight valvetrain, forged internals, 3.5 exhaust, headers, etc... etc...)
all have their pitfalls, yes absolutely.
But basically, the gen 3's oil system sucks (in the bad way) and the chassis needs a lot of modifications to make anything north of 500whp fun/safe.
Well...mine is a GEN-II saga from NA to blown, to extremely blown, to a GEN-IV upper half conversion, to a custom one-off WHipple 4.0 blower (Ka-Boom) now back to my GEN-II block with the GEN-IV upper half NA. Just got tired of chasing HP demons. I can do about anything automotive that I put my mind to...maybe my biggest pitfall is not knowing my limits (mostly because of the limitations of SCT). Aevus makes great points. Like I said, if you are having fun with it all as a hobby, take it to its limit. If you have to cut corners, compromise on necessary components, or don't have the time/patience to do it right, its a frustrating one step forward/two steps back process.
