Ducati Fans and others Please Post

Just wanted to touch base with others here on if they are Ducati fans. If so, please post your bike and your experiences on owning it (things to watch out for). Trying to make up my mind on what to get. Looking at older bikes with reduced horsepower for the moment. 998 most likely.

Love Ducati and MV Agusta. Both Italian works of art. A MV Agusta Tamburini F4 1000 is pure porn.
I’ve rode quite a few different models of both over the years but at my size I was never comfortable enough to commit to buy.
Can’t remember which ones had clutch noise due to it being a dry clutch.
Always had HD and original and new Indians over a 45 year period before health made safe riding/handling a thing of the past.

I have a '15 Ducati Diavel carbon with Termi exhaust and tune. It is probably one of the most beautiful bikes out there IMHO. Actually more power than needed for a naked sport "cruiser". They are works of art and sound amazing.

I haven't had a bike since 2015. When I bought that one, I rode some 1198s and a S1000RR. I couldn't handle the riding angle of the 1198, hurt my wrists after 20-30 minutes. The S1000RR was incredible, and I often wish I would've purchased it.

I ended up with a 2014 KTM RC8R. It was incredible. V-Twin engine had power way down low, and the bike itself was narrower so I could really throw it around well, felt like a 600. I put a Jester exhaust on it and it would shoot flames on deceleration and sounded phenomenal. Miss that thing!

Aprillia makes a Nice Bike and The Touno is a good option for Sport Touring .

I've owned a Ducati 998, 999, monster S4 & an Aprillia Tuno.... The 998 was beautiful but was uncomfortable as HELL for anything other than highway speeds or higher. Alot of pressure on wrists (even with risers) & knees tucked up in a full on racer position with a heavy clutch pull. 999 was a world better, should have kept that bike it was really a great bike (either love or hate the design, grew to love it). The Monster S4 was the best of all worlds, comfortable & had the 999 engine in it. The Aprillia was fantastic. Like an Italian made Honda, reliable & maintenance friendly. Ducatis have come a long way now... Haven't ridden in 13 years now (kids) but miss it.

What are your intentions? Cruising around, track days, spirited highway runs?

My favorite road burner was my ZX12. Was like a 110% size sport bike. lol Not as nimble as a twin but would hold a line well.

The only V-twin I ever had in a sport style configuration was a 1997 TL-1000S. Simple mods and it was a treat. Made 117 HP at the tire so though not world beating but it was a blast to ride. Always power available.

I believe in buying a bike that suits your intentions. I would ride my Victory Hammer (106ci) with friends who were on sport bikes and hard as I may try I couldn't keep up anywhere but in the 60 foot. Haha

Had a 748 in yellow. Loved it and then went int Aprilia's and had a pair of RSV4 Factory bikes. That was a fast MF and would scare the bejeezus out of me! LOL

2001 996. I have had an R6 and R1. I love the Duck as it was my childhood dream bike, the single sided swing arm and undertail exhaust. I bought this in 2006 and have put about 30k miles on it. My 1st comment is its hard as a rock. The seat is hard, hurts your ass.

Intentions are to just tool around on local back roads in Texas. Want to get the best bike for the money. There are lots of deals out there. I am super surprised.

The 996 above, however, is a world of its own. No deals on them. Heck.....can't even find them for sale. Cool stuff. See you have the good exhaust as well.

And...as to the above the ZX14 is also in consideration Roomier and fast. Hard to make up my mind. No track days. I don't need to impress anyone.

I have been considering selling my 996. Can't believe the day would come. I'm getting older and have one grandkid already. I haven't ridden it at all this year and only a handful of times last year. I'm in central Illinois and the roads here are crap. I have a 45 min commute to work each day, can't listen to podcast or drink coffee, lol. Still paying insurance each month. When I was younger and had no wife/kids, my buddies and I worked 2nd shift and we would ride for hours after work. Times change. I'm NOT a cruiser guy so once this bike is gone, that's it for me.

The prices are rising....especially for the 996, considered one of the most beautiful bikes ever created. Expect over 10k. A recent 998 Matrix just sold on Bring a Trailer for 30k. Last year....they went for 5k.
