Faulty door handle switch

On my 2017 the driver side exterior door handle stopped working. On the interior if you pull and handle slightly you hear that slight click and then the click opens the latch. On the exterior handle you hear that slight click when you push the handle down but then no loud click that opens that latch itself. Seems like my exterior switch has gone bad but the problem is it's a discontinued part and after making several calls there are none left. This is the part "Front Door Exterior Handle 68096397AD" Does anyone have a possible source for this part? There are 77 passenger side handles in the warehouse so there is a possibility that can be made to work but if anyone else has done it already that would be encouraging. Every parts department I have talked to said you're on your own. I'm mentally prepared to buy a passenger side one and mod it to make it work but I'd rather not. Any advice or points in another direction? I was also thinking if I'm going to end up modding a switch why not also buy a gen 3/4 switch for $50 to see if i can get that to work as well.

It literally stopped working on Saturday afternoon. The car is stored inside and it's always been washed with care around the handles.

I've at least seen that part number on Ebay at least but it's also been discontinued but it's the same switch from 2003 - 2015 so I'm hoping there are plenty left in warehouses. I'll call parts departments in the morning to check stock.
