A C Vents vents going crazy

    Forum,

Reaching out seeing if anyone has experienced something like this. Rather recently, when driving if I press the throttle just hard enough, and my A/C vents close and all cold air is moved down to the footwell.....still blows cold air, but only in the footwell vents.

If I turn off the car and restart it, it usually resets, and all is back to normal. But if I apply anything above 30%throttle (estimate) the upper A/C vent door will close (I can hear it close behind the dash) cold air will only come out of the footwell vents.

A couple years ago I had a similar issue and had to replace part number 05043011AD which was a little module behind the dash on the drivers side but everything has been fine since I replaced that.

I recently moved from Seattle to Denver in a much dryer climate, and wondering if it has anything to do with it..... either way let me know your thoughts. 2015 GT......

First off welcome to Colorado. Are you a VOA member? We have a very active region and if you PM me your email address I can send our calendar of events and get you on our mailing list.

Second, many people have questioned why the A/C stops blowing at near full throttle (I forget the explanation for that but I'm sure someone else will chime in) but I've never heard of anyone complaining about your exact situation at only 30% throttle. We have many members here in Colorado with all generations of Viper and none of us have that problem despite the altitude and dry climate. I myself have two Gen 5s and a Gen 4. No issues with any of them.

Not sure if this is related, but I had a situation where the HVAC system went totally bonkers. The system would cycle from one mode to another, and I couldn't get it to stop without totally turning off the A/C. I brought it in, and they said it was a faulty control module, which got replaced.

I can't stand all this computerized crap. In my Gen II, the most I had to worry about was a dial breaking or a cable breaking. All easy fixes. Now, when something goes wrong, someone with a lot more smarts than me needs to fix it.

I remember now (I guess I'm getting old) that my 2014 GTS did in fact do something like this. The AC vents would change from the dash to the floor. There was a TSB (technical service bulletin) or software update for the AC vents that corrected the problem. I don't know if the problem was limited to 2014 or whether it also existed for other years. Sorry I can't remember more. I may have posted about this though years ago so maybe it is on here somewhere.

Here is another thread about the same issue. Pretty sure a software update would fix it.

Ironically, yes But, that's probably why I prefer cars that don't have ten million points of failure that can only be fixed via software updates. My old '97 GTS was perfect - nothing high tech at all, and when something broke, I just opened up the service manual and fixed it.

The new Rubicon 392 scares the crap out of me. I still haven't figured out how to do a lot of the basics. It's got more computational horsepower than the Space Shuttle.

That’s awesome! The 392 Rubicons are sick!

Honest to God, it's a Viper for off-roading. It's just as brutally scary as my Gen II GTS, and it can crash through brush and catch air like it was nothing.
