    Uconnect Version 14.X.X

Just took the new update that came out April 1st for my Uconnect. Pretty awesome. Many fixes from 13.X.X including the ability to voice respond (adlib, not canned) to announced text messages. Anybody that wants a copy of the fixes included in the update PM me with an email addy.

I've noticed the backup camera quality went terrible, the video is very choppy and blocky at times.

Have you already done the 14.X.X update? That was quick. I didn't notice any chop in the rear camera but will check that out....

Maybe I misunderstood but it sounded like you had done the update and then noticed the backup camera chop. If I am wrong, sorry. In any event, I just checked my backup camera and it is working fine and with no chop or delay. And just so we are clear about software version, the new update made available April 1st is 14.05.3.

Another big deal with the new update is a working version of WiFi Hotspots and the addition of Pandora in the Apps.

I just downloaded and ran this update myself. I too am experiencing degraded video quality on the backup feed. Hopefully they correct this with a new update soon as it is quite annoying!

How does the text message reading work? That's one thing that drives me crazy, my wife texts me knowing full well I'm driving around in the car. When it's plugged in its not like I can even see the screen lite for a second to know I've missed a text. If v14 has an interface to read those ill PM you my email for the file.

When I receive a text a menu appears with options one of which is to listen. I touch listen and the received message is announced to me. At that point another menu appears that has a couple of options including reply. I touch reply and am then prompted to reply by voice or screen (i think). Anyway, I touch voice and am then prompted by voice to announce my message. I speak my message and amd then prompted by voice to send. I speak send and the message is sent.

I had mine done the 1st, it should be (tech talked about it)

I need to get a video of the choppiness, because it is annoying to me

Personally, I don't enable the hotspot, I don't trust the security of it

I'm thinking you can download it to a usb and upload it in your car like the ford systems have. Pretty sure about that...

Tried that. Was able to download the update fine, unfortunately their installer script has a bug in it and hangs at about 75%. Even the Vipertech today told me that he had the same problem and that Uconnect/SRT had to burn them a disk which is what he loaded the thumbdrive with which we did my update. Once the thumbdrive is loaded, it's pretty much just watch the progress bars, it's all automated. Pretty cool.

Ugh I don't trust any of my local dealers.

Uconnect 8.4AN is common to Dodge pickups as well as the Vipers. This ain't brain surgery. If you want the update I'm afraid it's the dealer or nothing.

I wonder if this would work in the Uconnect on my 2012 SRT8 300? That thing is plagued with issues and they refuse to do anything about it. Apparently they were corrected in the 2013, but us 2012 owners are left with our package in our hands.

What are the typical problems, I have a 2012 Grand Cherokee and it seems to be fine. On the other hand, it does not compare to the product in the 2013 Viper.

It won't work with the 300, we have the 8.4, which apparently is not compatible with the 8.4A/AN found in the Viper, GC, Truck, etc. Even though they are identical units from a visual standpoint.

There is a host of issues with it. Shuffle mode for Ipod restarts itself everytime you shut the car down. Album art cannot be displayed. Bluetooth streaming is pretty poor. Etc. 300cforums has a big thread with everything detailed. Chased it up the ladder, but Chrysler refuses to make a simple update for us to fix these things. Pretty sad that my old 7" uconnect in my 2011 Ram does all this stuff without issue, yet a newer model is having all these problems.

This update works with the Uconnect 8.4AN only. It is my understanding that the 300 has the 7.3 but I don't know that for sure. If you don't know, then go to settings > system and it will tell you.

Keep in mind updates are available for self-install from the self service website.

    http://www.driveuconnect.com/support/srt/

Then click the system update button (right most column), put in your VIN to make sure it gives you the right instructions and update files.

When I downloaded the update from that site the install to executable script hung. Dealer told me it did the same thing when they tried and they ended up having to get a cd sent to them. Were you able to successfully install the update using that site?

If anyone knows about Viper updates, Roadrunner does. I'll try it on ours this weekend...
    Thanks

Yes it has worked, the version for my radio is now 14.05.3

    It showed "UCONNECT® 8.4AN_RA4 (14.05.03) " on the website...

It was a little tricky in that the Akamai client downloaded and installed, but I didn't realize that you then have to go back to the support site, and then the download occurs on the webpage... You can skip the tutorial to get to the download start link. That link only works if you already have the Akamai interface installed.

This is the same system the dealers use. If you are having trouble, I'd say you'd want to call the service number and tell them what your specific issue is.

Hey Roadrunner, thanks for the info. I did the initial download to the thumb drive and then went back to the site to run the Akamai install and that is when it hung. Next time there is an update available I may tap on you to forge the way and provide comment regarding the procedure. (if I may) Thanks again for the info!
