    Looking for brake duct info

I'm looking to replace my rear brake duct hoses as both have completely fallen apart. This is the hose that runs from the side brake duct and goes down to the rear brake via behind the trim in the trunk on the sides. I have included a pic of the hose with the duct attached. I only need the hose. I have tried several hoses already most new hoses are silicone type. They don't really stretch enough to get them attached the the side duct. The stock hose is almost a paper type have not been able to locate a suitable replacement. I believe it's 64mm diameter.s-l400.jpg

Are you doing it just because you want it working or function? I seriously doubt it does much or that the rear brakes need cooling.

Have you tried a big truck shop...or big truck stop?

You may be partially right. However this is a heavily tracked Viper. Currently there are no hoses on either side now due to degradation.

How do you suspect they degraded?

The air coming in from outside. After 5 years I’m sure that is enough. Car has 20k miles lots of time in the hot sun and track.

Be sure to measure the actual duct OD rather than the hose. Shop here for hose sizes and choose your material:

Thats weird - Theyre not exposed to the sun?? There are many 50k mile gen v’s with like new ducts?

As I said the ducts on the side are not the problem. It’s the hose that connects and runs to the rear brakes.

I would think the 1 ply silicone ones like GTS Dean posted should work. I have the same 2 ply heavier ones on the Comp Coupe. I was able to bend those enough for my purposes. The 1 ply claim to be very flexible. Might depend if they have the right diameter size.

    Here are some more options

Do the rear brake ducts work??....I think they do. One time I took one of my rear tires off, while doing that, I had a standing up fan in my garage in front of the car, I could feel a slight breeze coming out of the duct.

The thought is they do actually work. The question is do the rear brakes actually need cooling? Even on the track they don't get too crazy hot like the fronts.

The black hoses they have are 2-ply neoprene/fiberglass and much more flexible than the orange silicone ones. Good for 300F which is likely fine for the rear.

I can attest that they work very well. I had a tear in the hose behind the passenger side duct and even with the panel on I could feel air on my neck while I was driving the car with the windows up. And yes if you track the car the rear brakes get hot so it helps.

Any air you can get to the brakes, especially the calipers helps, front or rear. You already have the ducting and your taking the drag penalty so why not use it.
brake ducting you can get at
Mcmaster-carr, aircraft spruce, pegasus, wine country motorsports coleman racing

You dont necessarily need silicone hose but its not a bad idea for safety if you goto the track alot. You can use super flexible ,PVC coated or super flexible neoprene coated hose

TKO I agree that is what I want to replace the hose. It's there for a functional reason, not for looks.

This past weekend I measured my front brakes at 550F and rears at 450F after a moderate 10 minute session, so I could see them getting significantly hotter when pushing more.

Those are not really very high temperatures, so I assume you measured the calipers. At the track, pads and rotors see much higher values. The fronts do most of the work and Tempilaq paint will show rotors from 800-1400F. Rears are pretty happy in the 4-500F range.
