Our lunch and May VOA meeting will start at Noon (EDT) at The Oasis Diner in Plainfield, IN on Saturday, May 14, 2022.

The Oasis Diner, manufactured by Mountain View Diners in Signac, NJ was originally shipped via railroad to the east side of Plainfield in 1954 where it operated till its closing in 2008. In 2010, Indiana Landmarks listed the Diner as one of their 10 most endangered Indiana buildings. This list prompted the Town to conduct a feasibility study which resulted in the structure being relocated 4 miles west to its current location and restored, reopening in November 2014.

Both interior and exterior of the Oasis Diner have been restored back to its original appearance. The Diner also remains located on the Historic National Road and is the only diner on the National Road in Indiana and is only 1 of less than 5 historic diners remaining on US 40 from Cumberland, Maryland to Vandalia, Illinois.

Great turnout in spite of the threat of storms. At least 8 Vipers ( all 5 generations) plus a couple of MOPARS and a couple of daily drivers were in the parking lot. President Jackson held a meeting outside on the edge of a nice park, then we went inside. As we got a bit spread out in the restaurant, it was difficult to make an accurate head count. At least 18 folks attended by my count. The food was good by all reports...noting that the servers were quite busy. As we finished eating, thunderstorms moved in with light rain initially. Those who when east and south likely stayed dry. The rest got wet. NICE GATHERING !!!
