New to forum question about tape

    Hi all!

I just purchased a 2001 Viper GTS. This car is amazing, it's my dream car and I'm so happy I finally have one! I've always been a corvette owner but finally got her a mate.

Wanted to get input on something-- I see a piece of red tape that is on the bottom of the rear bumper, a small little piece above that (in the crevice of the bumper), and another one just above that between the two panels -- these are all in the same vertical plane. See photos for an idea of what I'm trying to explain.

My dad does body work and inspected for any accidents/repair and said it looks flawless so he was confused about the tape as well. Nothing reported on history check either and car only has 10k miles. I even checked date of production of the tail lights and they match up well with the year. I know the factory production on these cars was sometimes imperfect, so was looking to see if anybody had any thoughts on what this might be.

I feel compelled to pull the tape but everything on the car is stock and I don't want to mess up anything.

    Thanks! Glad to be here

Are you sure it’s tape and not that the car was wrapped before you purchased it?

Hi! Thanks for the reply. Do you mean wrapped in red? I don’t think it is because it’s literally a single linear strand that is perfectly vertical in its plane (where I had noted)

That is weird in that it is in about the same spot all the way up as if it had an ACR stripe and then, maybe, painted back over again. If it had more red in different places I would say that they may have replaced the rear end, for whatever reason.

Congrats on the Viper purchase, looks great, you are going to have a blast with the car.

You are not going to enjoy the stupid human tricks people will do just to get a picture of the car while you are driving down the road! However, you are going to have a good time telling you friends all about it over a few cold ones!

Looks to me like someone did a red driver's stripe and at some point it was peeled off. They apparently went to some unusual lengths in applying it because they would have had to remove the rear taillight panel to get it where they did.

Wow interesting! I didn’t think of that, and yes that would A LOT of work — I just read how you’d physically have to do that. Thank you all for your input. Time to get this crap off
