    Air Conditioning Loosing Pressure

    ..and yes...I did search first.

My '96 RT has had an on-going problem with loosing A/C pressure. We put dye in the system last spring, and I found minor leakage around the compressor line connections. New o rings were installed and it held vacuum. Also replaced the Schrader valves. By the end of the season....it was gone again.

I went all over this yesterday with the UV light and goggles. Even removed the HVAC blower to look at the evaporator and expansion valve. Put it on the lift and checked underneath, too. Can't find any dye, stains, etc. The compressor may be showing some signs of oil leakage behind the clutch, but no apparent dye.

Similarly, my 2000 GTS did the same. Found the same minor leakage and replaced the o rings at the compressor and Schrader valves. Held a vacuum. Charged and was good all last season. This weekend...found the A/C no longer working. I did a quick look from the top, but have found nothing yet.

My understanding is that the most common leakage is around the compressor where the lines connect. I'd be thankful for any thoughts.

id be checking the lines going into the condensor behind the front bumper common issue there also

Yes the condenser lines use the same o-rings, and are hard to see and even harder to get a wrench on. Which is why no one typically replaces those o-rings.

Thanks all! Speaking for the RT, I've been all over it with the UV light and goggles. Can't find a thing. I'll check the condenser again. Thus far, pleased it's not in the evaporator...

My local indy shop is thinking it's the compressor. They say that if it leaked out over the winter, the dye may not come out as it only comes out with oil...not gas.

Once the weather warms up...we'll try another charge and see if anything is more apparent.
