Question Electric Door latch failure SOLUTIONS

My driver side electronic door latch began failing intermittently (not opening the door sometimes). Now it is almost totally toast. Replacement part is not available, discontinued. Considering options at this point. Ideally, it would be nice to engineer a reliable mechanical lock and key for the doors. In my car, there was a minor water leak around the edge of the door handle. When I washed the car or anytime water could get in, it probably damaged the electronics. Initially, I taped up the electronic latch mechanism below the door handle to block moisture. This helped for a short while, but the latch is now starting to fail while dry and failing more frequently. Passenger door works fine. I only have an issue with the driver door.

Is the passenger door latch interchangeable with the drivers side?

Odd its discontinued.. What about a used one? Or take to a eklectronic repair shop and see if they can fix it?

Does the door node module control the electronic door latch or just the windows? There was a TSB out for water infiltration that would cause the node to fail in strange ways. Harness and node were replaced and a water shield added. I know the TSB applied to MY 15 for sure (been there done that) and I think 14. Not sure about other years. Although I would think the problem would apply to MY 13 too.

Already tried that. Sites list it, try to backorder it, then cancel my order due to part discontinued.

Left and right control modules are listed as separate parts. It may only be a mounting issue. If it is just a mounting issue, I am sure I can find a way to mount it.

I believe the module in question only operates the door mechanism latch, but does provide an output signal to to another unit in the door to vent windows. The window venting works. When the failure occurs, this is what happens. I push down the door handle to open the door, the window vents, then the window closes. The door does not open. On subsequent pushes of the door latch, there is nothing, no window venting, no door opening.

Just one. I would not buy the used one from an unrated ebay account. All the google hits go to places that have none in stock. However, minutes ago, I may have just found the very last new one available anywhere. On all those mopar sites you see, some of them state that the item is discontinued and others let you put the part in your basket. After you actually submit the order, the next day you get an email indicating order cancelled because the item was discontinued. They don't actually have it in stock. They assume that they can backorder it, but when they try, they can't get it.

I need the electronic latch that the door handle operates, not the door handle.

Thanks. . - Even though the description states "condition" is new, when you look at the pictures, it does not look new.

This is very concerning that there are parts being discontinued on a car that's not very old and to open the door is pretty important.

This has been going on for a while. I've gone at it with FCA about this...and they don't care. I would never buy another FCA product. Who the hell would want a Viper that you can't get in and out of? Ridiculous.

    That is ridiculous! Sheesh!
I get it that the vehicles are discontinued, but they should at least make some reserve parts for future service.
I guess I'll have to do my best to mitigate the water infiltration. It doesn't help that they are on the tops of the doors!!

Sorry - I may have just gotten the last one of these available anywhere, as a new part. Good luck finding one if you end up needing one.

This is what it looks like new:
