New Owner Warranty and service records Question

I sold my Gen III a few years ago and now in the market for a 2013 Gen V -

12k miles on it from a reputable showroom, no service records after 2017, apparently serviced by the owner's own mechanic that works on other exotics.

I'm going to get a warranty and want to protect myself if any engine issues come up.

Question - Worth taking the risk? (considering the recent FCA horror stories and lack of service records)

Keep in mind that very few Vipers have extensive service records that can be confirmed by Chrysler, CARFAX, or AutoCheck.

In my experience, routine service records at CJDR dealerships stay in house at the servicing dealership. The actions that are in the Chrysler computer generally contain inservice date, warranty work, and recalls.

As you have noted, MANY owners do their own service which will only be known (but hopefully documented) by said owner.

If you are looking at any early Gen V, be sure that it passed all of the recalls...about 5 or 6 for 2013 and some 2014 Vipers. The biggest (in my opinion) involves R-28. If the car passed it, you the Viper got a 10 powertrain warranty. If it failed, the Viper got a new motor. Be sure to run the VIN yourself at the Chrysler selfserve site...then, ask your local CJDR dealer to do the same to confirm recall info and warranty.

If you have questions, ask them here. You can always call me concerning the other things to look for with these fun, but complex Beasts.

Intended purpose makes a big difference when considering the car's history, current status, and price. Collectors, drivers, and racers usually have widely different points of view. Good luck in your hunt.

Thank you Steve, I called the dealer and they couldn't give me a warranty since R28 wasn't completed.. the search continues

I can help you with an extended service contract on it if you'd like. Just PM me.

diablovox, I would insist on having the ALL of the recalls done...especially the R-28. There are other substantial recalls for a 2013...one of which fixes the door issue of popping open spontaneously while the car is at speed or at rest...just to mention one. Then there is the rear glass "exploding" TSB...

If the seller won't work with you, I would suggest that you keep looking.
