engine revs up to 2700rpm holds for a few seconds then goes back to 850rpm

Having some issues with my 04 srt and would appreciate some advice. My car has 35000miles, new wires, plugs and air filter. Prior to the tuneup, the car would rev as soon as I "baby touched" the gas pedal. It would quickly climb to over 2500rpm and then stay there for 5 sec, and then slowly go back down. It didnt matter whether I was in drive or neutral. If I pressed the clutch while in "drive", the tach would slightly bounce, and the engine would make a womp womp sound. The fuel is not old, the battery is fairly new, and as mentioned, its had a recent tune up. Any help would be appreciated.

Guys, thanks for the fast responses. Hopefully it is a fuel issue. I will get those two items looked at and update the post. If anyone has other thoughts prior to me taking it to the dealership, that would be appreciated

Check all vacuum lines that run to the intake manifold to make sure they are all in place, and not damaged.

Might be also worth checking to make sure all sensors are plugged in/fully seated.

I'd assume you'd get a check engine light if any of these things were not okay, but you never know.

Thanks Dan Lesser, Viper Specialties for his expertise in diagnosing the car. Anyone living is Southwest Florida has to be pleased that Dan has moved into town. He is one of the few that are still committed to earlier Gen Vipers. In the end, it was a vacuum hose that was not tightly snugged. Steve M wins a cigar and a bourbon!! Thanks for all the help guys

That's great news! You can't beat a fix that requires no parts!
