    Mixed Tires

Question: has anyone run different front and rear tire makes (other than drag racing). I’m not tracking the car but am a spirited street driver. I have the Toyo R888 up front but considering the Kumho rears - any downside? Or should I continue the search of r888 rears?

    Thanks

I actually run this exact setup because I couldn't source r888 rears. Haven't had any issues with them.

Believe Capevetts (Paul) runs r888 in rear and Michelins up front on his Gen II without issues.

If the rears have more grip, you'll be more prone to understeer. If the front has more grip, you'll be prone to oversteer.

I'm going to guess the Kumhos have more grip (?) and the car is already prone to understeer from the factory so you'll just have more understeer tendencies.

Looks like Michelin has the pilot 4S in stock gen v sizes now also.

I have been running Toyo R888r on the rear of my Gen 2 GTS with Michelins up front for a while. You only notice the understeer when driving above 8/10's. Once the fronts wear out I will go to Toyos all around for a little more predictable handling at the limits.

Thanks all for the feedback. I’ll wait a while before ordering the Kumho to see if the R888 come back in stock (no rush til spring).
