    Exclamation Z06 C8 the last N A before extinction

    Please don't hate me for bringing Vette's discussion on a Viper's forum, but that's an interesting topic.

    The Corvette Z06 2023 comes (surprisingly I must say) with a naturally aspirated engine. I'm all for it, really. Can't wait to hear that screamer.

    But do you think that will be the last big N/A to be offered on the market ?

    Everything goes turbos and hybrid (if not 100% electric) these days...

    N/A is, as big of a deal for me as the manual transmission question is.

    Volkswagen group (which includes Porsche, Lamborghini, Audi, etc..) will most likely go the Hybrid/EV and/or Turbo route for the next generation cars... GT3, Huracan, R8, etc..

    Still a butt ugly car ... not horrible like the stingray ...

    we'll see how it performs in the real world ...

    engine technology is interesting ...

    Beware: GM performance numbers have always been FAKE NEWS ...

    Not a big fan of the C8 design myself.

    Looks like a japanese design mixed with an attempt to copy a Ferrari. The interior, though, is a serious step up compared to the earlier Vettes.

    Beware: GM performance numbers have always been FAKE NEWS ...
    Advertized numbers are misleading in both ways, I would say.

    How is the '22 GT3, 3250lbs RWD with only 502bhp, could make sub-11 seconds 1/4 mile?

    I would assume because of damn good launch control and blistering fast 0-60 times. Getting off the line and rolling is where you make your time on the drag strip.

    yes, they did improve the LC as said per Porsche but still. That's most likely underestimated bhp, like the 720s...

    The trap speeds point to that. From what little I looked, I saw 128-129 MPH trap speeds in the quarter, so I'm guessing their official rated numbers are at least 50 HP shy of reality, maybe more.

    The Z06 with Z07 package looks very similar to the C8R raced in IMSA. I called that one when I saw the C8R for the first time and stated, "This is what the Z06 is going to look like!" Frankly it looks much better than the Z51 package Stingray IMO. You can't argue with what they are attempting to do with the Vette. I wish a Gen 6 Viper would present itself to compete....

    Both factories claim the C8 and F8 have 0-60 times in 2.9 seconds.

    Check MotorTrend's Greatest Drag race#10.

    C8 and Ferrari F8 square off. Launch control super on both cars.

    The F8 proceeds to wipe the C8 out ...

    One factory ain't right!!!

    I wish a Gen 6 Viper would present itself to compete....
    wouldnt count on that too much. No prototype in sight so the earliest production would be minimum 2025-26.. By then all new super/hyper cars will be hybrid 800-1000hp+

    and an hybrid Viper wouldnt really be a Viper.

    C8 numbers seem right on the money to me. They launch hard at the strip, but run out of steam a bit towards the end. Good for bottom 11s at 120-ish from what I've seen.

    Aevus, no reason not to talk about Corvette's, Viper production has been dead for 4 years and ain't coming back.

    I love road racing and with no Vipers I pull for the Corvette Team, American built and supported by passionate folks just like the good old Dodge racing days!!!!

    I'll let you guys discuss Drag racing facts and figures. But, I'll tell you out of the box with the Z-07 option, this new Vette is going to be a real match for and ACR-E. By the time they launch sales, look for them to post US road race tracks results and don't be surprised if they take some of the Viper records down. If not for a bad wreck (not by GM) at the Nurnberg Ring, we would have seen their Ring time already. (from what I read if may take them months to get another open testing date at the Ring). Stay tuned!

    I agree.

    Michelin Cup 2 R are probably the best road legal tires available, so I wouldnt be surprised to see a sub-7:00 time at the Ring

    I ordered on since I can not get a new Viper and I think it may be the last real gas American car thats not going to be electric. Wish there was going to be a new Viper but do not think we will see another.

    I agree. I wish they spent a bit more on the design or had someone with more talent in that area. I love the car, the mid engine, the LT6 is absolutely awesome. I also love the targa top and price point. The problem is the car is overstyled and not particularly attractive. It's like a 488 with just tons of random creases and sharp lines thrown in. The widebody will help its cause but GM was never known for beautiful cars since back in the 50's and 60's.

    The C8 Z06 is an engineering marvel IMO. Naturally aspirated, flat plane crank, 670 hp with an 8,600 RPM redline. It will be a fantastic track animal and alot of fun on the street. I'm first at my dealership on the Z06 list and hope to have one by this time next year. My current C8 Z51 has 10,000 trouble free miles on it. It's a blast to drive and from a dead stop to 100 is as fast as anything I have driven. Very balanced handling and an easy car to drive fast. The Z06 will bring it to a whole new level. It may well be the last hurrah for a N/A ICE.
    Love Vipers but we need to root for American made sports cars. It's all we have now.

    For the Vette Guys ,
    Where is the LT6 engine and heads Cast / foundry at ?
    And were is the Block and Heads machined and assembled at ?

    Not sure where the individual parts are cast and machined, but I'm pretty sure they all come together at GM's performance build center in Bowling Green, KY.
