Defroster shattering rear glass on early 2013's?

I had read this happened to some early 2013 cars. A buddy of mine just purchased and low # Launch Edition and had his shatter this week on the 1st day. I purchased a high # launch edition, so wondering does anyone know what was determined to be the problem and when/what # the issue was fixed?

Yes, there was a thread on this site somewhere where a member WAS contacted by SRT and the issue was explained to them. They have a revised part and are aware of the issue. IS covered under warranty

Carbon fiber conducts through glass and pop. They will fix, raise some hell to get them to expedite the part.

Thanks, yes I saw that post. I am more concerned on if my car has the problem or not. How could you tell (other than turning on defroster and having break) if car has the problem?

Its very hard for me to understand why SRT does not contact those that have taken a delivery of a car that may be affected by this. They know when they made changes to the design so they also know exactly what cars could have some possible issues.

Do a recall or at least notify the owners of what they may expect and if they have a problem how to proceed. This is pretty serious. Imagine being on a road trip when your rear glass shatters. Then what...duct tape and garbage bags ??

SRT wanted to enter a new market...well, they better step up their game all the way around.

Only a handful of cars have experienced it. It only occurs the first time you turn on defrost - so you don't need to worry about it randomly happening. Either the CF conducts to the glass or it doesn't

I turned mine on immediately to check, and everyone everywhere should do so, even if they won't need to use it later, so at least it will not arise as an issue for some future buyer after the warranty has expired.

Minor issues impacting a few people.

You all act as if SRT has to replace all the engines in every Viper built.

I'd be more concerned if they weren't rectifying the issues people had, but they are.

My door popped open once and hasn't happened since. Mine is 14 TA. Best quality American car I've owned.

Good points, lol. Teething pains.......

At the All Access deal where we test drove the Gen 5's, I was shocked (impressed actually) at how light the rear hatch was. In fact, with the hatch open I grabbed each side and was able to move each corner up and down and wiggle it effortlessly. Now I don't want to alarm any Gen 5 owners that "tested" their rear defroster with no problems, but as flexible as that hatch is, I'd be a little concerned about future issues with the carbon fiber possible getting shorted out as things move around and wear with time.

The right thing for Chrysler to do is send a letter out to each Gen 5 owner of the affected VIN's and have them come in for the update. Why take a chance on future issues and not gain some good PR from existing owners now??

This is what I am looking for. I actually am shocked some of you say just turn it on and see if it shatters. Are your expectations really that low? Have you thought about it? Seriously, how difficult is it for the manufacturer to identify the specific early vin cars that are impacted and let those people know and let the rest know not an issue. Seems a much better option than going in the garage, hitting a switch and just praying that it does not shatter.

The Ferrari 458 guys that had their cars burn to the ground would likely rather just have the occasional window shatter. No brands are perfect. My brand new 2010 BMW X3 lasted 3 days before the engine blew.

Just bustin' balls as usual. I need to pull my Maserati in every night like a cell phone for fear of having a flat battery after driving it the day before. R8 or 991 with German engineering probably give the least headaches.
