Production Rivians are in the wild but still rare to see. My local PPF shop that’s done 3 of my vehicles and everything worth seeing in town got their first one in last week.

Electric vehicles are going to be like lego kits. You basically don't need to develop anything but the aesthetics.

This is going to be especially true in about 5 years when battery and motors are way more than almost all their customers even care about. They'll all be 1000hp and 500 miles. The only thing people will care about is how it looks

Edit: Responding to TrackAire's comment above....

I understand all of that about YouTuber's wanting to be invited back and needing to put out "good" reviews, which is why I generally try to read between the lines and gauge their genuine enthusiasm by paying close attention to statement like "only one other vehicle that I have ever reviewed scored higher than the Rivian." That seems like a statement that you can't make too many times, with too many cars, without losing credibility. I also thought others had made similar remarks and I don't typically hear that. For example, even with Demuro, his recent review of the Gen III Raptor was good, but he ranked it fairly low compared to other current trucks and basically said "get the TRX instead."

Doug is way up there with over 4 million subs....he yields way more marketing power than even the best TV commercial any car manufacturer can put out.

Funny you mention the TRX....I have group of friends that have owned both the last gen Raptor (V6 EcoBoost) and now the new TRX. Most bought the TRX because Ford made Raptors impossible to get in 2021. Every one of them loves the TRX more but but most would go back to the Raptor if it had the supercharged V8 that is in the Mustang GT500 instead of the EcoBoost. They just felt the Raptor had a better driving feel, looked better but was under powered for the money and compared to the TRX.

It would be interesting to see Doug's review if both trucks had 700 plus horsepower and what his choice would be then.

I have a TRX on order (who knows when or if it will ever get filled), but I also like the look of the Raptor better and would have ordered one if it were not for (a) the ridiculous V6, but more importantly (b) the lackluster interior. Ram knocked it out of the park with the new interiors in the 1500's and the Hellcat engine seals the deal for me. But damn the Raptor is great on the exterior. And, I'm starting to think that Ford may not do the V8 option, so the TRX is really the best bet imo (and Dodge already said no more Hellcats after '23 I believe).

    Imagine a TRX with a 1000hp electric engine though…

If not towing long distances you'll be ok. If towing a car, you're looking at a range of about 100 miles per charge in the real world. Trying to get into a charging station when hooked to a trailer usually sucks.

This just dropped into my emails regarding towing cross country with a Rivian:

Aerodynamic drag is an electric vehicles range kryptonite. Trailers are vehicular parachutes.

Most Tesla Superchargers can now recharge up to 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes.

I feel like you're implying that the weight of the car is making the tires "cry"... but I can make the tires on my 2000 lbs GTI do the same thing.

Screaming tires are not a bad thing and anyone that's autocrossed or tracked a car on street tires (and is good) will tell you that. Street tires talk when they're approaching their limit; learning to listen will make you a better driver.

Agreed; every car friend of mine that has bought one has loved it. A friend in Pittsburgh had a big head/cam/spray GTO, similarly modded G8, C6 Corvette, and then a Procharged C7 Corvette (iirc) before hoping in a Model 3. Loves it.

They can be great for the same reason that my Audi S5 was great - it wasn't setting any top speed records and was super heavy, so cornering and braking sucked... but it could blitzkrieg the hell out of 0-100 mph - which is where we spend 99.999% of our driving time.

I suggested you watch the video and listen to the crying tires. That is not optimum performance tire squeal - that is a car pushing like a dump truck on corner exit and the tires begging for mercy. Here is the video. You don't have to get past 40 seconds to see what I am referring to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ujp3q_aryRA

I still disagree. Those are just talkative tires; I ran some Goodyears like that on a 3000 lbs autocross car once. You don't get that kind of hollering out of most performance/low treadwear tires, so I could see how it seems out of the norm. Certainly, the driver finds and exceeds the limits of the tires multiple times during the lap, but even if I were to agree with what you are implying - that the tires were way over their limit, to me that just means that the car is capable of going even faster with a better driver.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say that Teslas make for excellent track cars, but I do disagree with the idea that the noisy tires imply anything other than that the tires were being driven as they should be - at their limit.

EDIT: And I think you're just so much more aware of the tire noise in this case, since there are no other competing noises.

It felt similarly strange the first time I saw the Audi R18 TDI on-track in person. You couldn't really hear any engine/exhaust noise, but you could hear the aero and the tires... it almost felt unnerving and wrong to hear almost nothing from a car going so incredibly fast.

Hrm....I may know him. Was his GTO black, his C7 yellow and his Tesla blue? lol

If you mean Simmons, his G8 wasn't modified like his GTO. However the car lineup is right for him

LOL! My memory is fuzzy on the details, but that sounds 100% accurate. One of the biggest forum trolls you've ever met?? I couldn't remember what color his GTO was and I'm sure I got some mods wrong, but black sounds right. I know for certain the C7 was yellow (and the C6 too, iirc) and the 3 is definitely blue. Now I'm questioning if it was the C6 or the C7 that got the Procharger. He's hard to keep up with, lol.

That's the guy. And you're probably right; my memory of details is trash. I can't even remember the G8's color (white?), but I could have sworn it was buttoned up too.

Definitely. I knew him initially from him trolling the Cobalt SS forums with the GTO. Met him at a GTO meet at Mid-Ohio in 2008, kept in touch a bit after that, and later on went to the Pens-Preds SCF Game 1 together in 2017.

    Small world, haha.

What happened to our crypto discussion??? Prices go down a bit and everyone finds something else to talk about??? Like cars?

All kidding aside, prices are cheap again for those that were waiting for a pullback. That's not to say that prices won't get cheaper before they get more expensive, but starting positions here with some quality names is not a terrible idea.

I think his online name was SK360 or something similar. If so I've met him a few times at Carlisle and at a gathering in Pittsburgh at another GTO members house.

you had to be at Palmers house. That is right across the street from me, and we had to have met. Why were you slumming with us GTO folks?

I asked in an earlier post about buying crypto in a 401k. If anyone is interested, I've done a lot of research since then. Here's what I've found:

Ultimately, you have to move the 401k money into an IRA to do anything. After moving to an IRA, there are several options. The trick is moving the money. If you're still employed at the company which is tied to the 401k, you're probably screwed. The only option is to do a "in process rollover" which very few plans allow. If that isn't allowed, you have to wait until you quit and can do a typical rollover. I'm putting in my two weeks notice tomorrow, so that's my solution.

Once you have the ability to move your 401k money (or if its already in a IRA), there are several options. I evaluated all of them for fees, and I'm going with itrustcapital. I plan on buying now and holding for around 10 years. I'm not a day trader. If you plan n trading frequently, a checkbook IRA is a better choice. How much better depends on the frequency with which you plan to trade.

Saw a young couple on the news last night explaining that they had two step authentification & other security settings with respect to their bitcoin app. However, a hacker was able to drain every penny of their 25k. Apparently the "funds" are not insured & it's a total loss.

Love how the forum has gone from naysayers on vipers appreciating in value to investment experts.

    Epic.

You are correct. Not sure which one you were but I met quite a few folks there. I think I had a few drinks with Mr. Mike, Steel chicken, and for the life of me I can't remember the other guys name. Sadly he passed away a few years ago. I think he was from the Canadian border. He brought the warm, green canned Genesee Cream Ale. Haha He purchased an F355 and had a few younger sons. The Dak brought his red Ducati and the retired airline pilot showed up as I was leaving.

Slumming. Ha! I'm was a poor kid from the hills of PA. I was wild, foolish, and pretty stupid back in those days, too.

So Wang was the guy from near Canada. What car did you bring? I'm trying to remember what year hudak had the Ducati but I may have been there with my 70 Camaro (orange and white) as I hadn't moved into the neighborhood yet lol

2013 NRBM C6. I believe the party I went to was in 2013. I remember a GTO member bringing his girlfriend who had a white dress with black stripes. Her straps were working overtime to contain the twins. lol I ended up having to leave right before the group photo.

My GPS took me all over hell that day. I ended up going through some little dirt driveway that turned out to be a private drive for some people up at the top of the hill. This older woman with a see through nightgown came out and gave me the riot act but I was genuinely sorry so she changed to be pretty nice.

That's right. I remember Wang now. I think he had an SRT8 Jeep at the time. Nice guy. That gif he got banned over was terrible. lol
