    NON ACR cars that added wings questions inside

    Does your deck lid flex? Do you have any concerns?

    Did the ACR just straight up mount it to the same decklid?

    I got the Xtreme decklid brace (not installed yet), but is there anything else that is done to the ACR to help support the big downforce?

    I got the springs/suspension for it, but I'm still kinda worried about the decklid.

    I believe there is a reinforcement inside the decklid for all Gen5 with a wing.

    That still leaves the answer a little bit shaded. Do you mean all Gen 5 decklids come with the reinforcement regardless of options?

    I put the ACR wing on AZ VPR's 2013 and, as you know, he has had it to 170 mph+ many times. As far as I know, he hasn't had any issues. We compared his '13 deck lid with both his and my '16 ACRs and did not see any difference in the basic structure. No additional bracing. The upper skin is bonded directly to the interior skin in the areas where the wing bolts. I did, as a precaution, build a carbon fiber "dog bone" shaped stiffener that I bonded to the underside of the deck lid to provide a little extra stiffness and strength where the wing bolts penetrate the deck lid.

    I installed the Xtreme trunk lid support Glue it to the underside using 5200 to bond the 2 pieces together (check out my ACR conversion thread for more details). Make sure the lid is level when clamping and gluing it or it may keep that shape. You should of also gotten the rubber lid support that disperses the load. Several track days hitting 135 mph and no indication of failure

    No, just those with wings. TA2, ACR, ACR-E

    Not sure how accurate that website is.. but looks like they might be the same? Would seem to think a call to local dealer Parts Dept could confirm? I recall hearing that at some point the lift-gate's (hatch) had added reinforcement added to them. I think someone posted a picture where they had taken out the third brake light and it could be seen inside the assembly.. Donno for Sure . But, ViperSRT seems to be pretty knowledgeable about these wonderful machines!

    Yes the deck lids were reinforced. Mopar parts could have decided to only stock the reinforced version for all applications for complexity minimization.

    Wing cars have the large rubber bumper stops as well. (See Hawk's picture above.)
    Didn't notice these on a stock GenV with no wing.

    What was reinforced? That carbon piece and rubber stopper shown above by Hawk?

    Looks like they used the same part number for the 2013-2017 deck lids, including OEM deck lids removed from early salvage cars. We removed the third tail light and examined the internals - could find no differences between the '13 GTS and '16 ACR deck lids. The lower skin of the deck lid is a three-dimensional structural carbon fiber piece that was probably designed to handle any of the various wings' downforce. The stiffener I built and the Xtreme trunk lid support (a nice looking piece) are probably overkill. I guess it is possible that Dodge added a couple of layers of extra carbon fiber thickness to the deck lid skins, but that was not apparent in our examination. It is my opinion that there are no differences between the '13-'17 deck lids.

    FWIW, when I was planning to buy a car and had to decide ACR or non ACR, I was told by a very well known Viper dealer that removing the wing on the ACR was a big no-no, that the ACR's springs and suspension would be set up to expect & deal with the effect the wing had on the car. So I would imagine the converse would be true, putting a wing on a non-wing car might require some changes.

    This was a well known Viper dealer, so I felt he knew his stuff. YMMV, hope it works out for you.

    Thanks- and I would agree with them. Adding even 500lbs of downforce is a big deal. I went with DSC/Tractive sprung at ACR spring rates.

    Even as it is, with a wing that makes much less downforce set at 0 degrees AOA, I can scrape my diffuser at WOT in shifts My car is pretty low though.

    I know the TA 1.0's only produce 460lbs of downforce, that being said, do TA1.0 use regular shock springs?

    Not sure what you mean by shock springs but the TA1.0 has stiffer springs than the GTS and SRT models.

    Having trouble finding this part number for the rubber block.

    Has anyone run a wing without it?
    Can anyone get me a part number lol?
    Was really hoping to run it tomorrow at the track.

    Expanding foam inside a plastic bag would provide custom contoured support for the weekend. Just a thought for consideration.

    You need to have controlled relief out of the trunk lid so you don't overstress anything while it expands. You also don't want that sticky crap getting on your paint either. But, you'll have lots of bearing area for the new loading.

    Yup. I'm definitely gonna lay some plastic down and such. We will see how those rubber foam things do, too.

    Nth Moto added the xtreme aero to my 1600rwhp GTS and WOW what a difference to make this car put the power to the ground. We also added the Tractive suspension at the same time along with all the suspension bushings. This is a whole different car and just drives amazing and no problems with the wing with plenty of hits up over 180mph.

    Did they anything to support the decklid?

    Looks great though.
