Very bad day Any advice on how to repair this

Came back from a two day trip to find this.

Going to claim with insurance but not sure how they will go about it.

From what I can tell the only repair , other then a replacement, would be to stitch it , and install a waterproof patch underneath?

Also does anyone know what the plug is, in the second photo?

Its ran through the back of the glove box

    Thanks

Yes - it is an older 30-pin connector, so it will only work with older iPods. Used one for many years.

If that's a break-in and/or vandalism, then you claim it on your own insurance as Comp, and they buy you a new top...? No way in holy hell you would ever repair this, not even sure how that would enter someones mind as a viable option lol.

I am pretty sure this could be located through a salvage yard if no stock available... not usually something that is damaged in an accident.

Otherwise, I am also sure that there is a convertible top company out there that could template the original and produce a replacement.

Yes insurance is on it now . Basically body shops just order the skin pre made from a company, and they reinstall it.

If I was stuck with the bill then I would probably just have it stitched up and patched until I found a used replacement.

$6500 cost estimate from the body shop

They remove the roof , send it off to be recovered, it gets shipped back , they say 1 momth turnover by I'll vet its longer then that

On the hunt fur a used one right now

Just go to any competent upholstery shop as most of them also make/install convertible tops. I can't imagine that costing much more than $1500 to $2K as I paid ~ $1200 to have my 04 Cobra's top redone with what I believe was the same material the Viper tops are made of (Twill) a couple years ago. I know inflation has hit in but not $6500 worth.

    they are taking the pi$$

How about $560 for the full assembly? although it mentions a small tear in the full description https://www.ebay.com/itm/31364565282...EAAOSwrKlhH-R7

or $1009 which says excellent condition https://www.ebay.com/itm/19368938741...Cclp%3A2334524

Let me know how that works out for you. I closely looked at the pictures for about 5 different used tops including the ones in the links. Personally I don't trust any of them. It's not just if the material is ripped.

    1. Is the top itself "tweaked" from the wreck that had insurance total the car.
    2. Some look like they've been stored outside making the material look weather-beaten and/or metal parts of top with surface rust.
    3. (Most important) How well is the material glued to the hard shell portion of the top and how well is the material stapled into the tack-strips, including how well is the material glued over the bows?

The material on my top looks like new, and the car is always stored indoors. Yet since it's no longer glued well, when the top is up, at about 70 and up the top "inflates" and starts flapping. I wish I could find someone I could trust to repair or replace the top. There is no way I would buy any of those recycled tops without putting eyes (and hands) on it. Can you imagine spending all that money on the top, waiting on delivery (at the edge of the chair on pins and needles), swapping tops, only to have your friend tell you the next time you all go for a ride that your convertible now looks like the hunchback of notre dame? I don't know about you but my heart probably wouldn't survive that.

If you think you can find a VIPER qualified person to fix the top, I would sooner go for something like OEM NEW 2010 Mopar Dodge Viper SRT-10 Convertible Folding Top Cover 1QB991TCAA | eBay or try to find it in black. I had a guy that redid my Roadrunner convertible top. Great work, tons of experience, never worked on a Viper. Trusted him 100% with the roadrunner, not at all with the viper. I'm almost certain you have to take the whole mechanism of to replace the material, and most likely to reglue it as well. BTW, 2 other people selling the tan top on ebay up to $200 less. That is probably still able to be ordered from your local dealer. I don't think the black is.
