Finally replaced my deck. As in my post above, had good amps, speakers, etc. but old in dash. Wanted touch screen with blue tooth and Apple Car Play. Installed a Kenwood in my Hummer and was going to go with similar, then found this Atoto S8 Gen2 on Amazon with amazing reviews.
Single Din with floating 8” touchscreen. Runs as a Google device so can run apps, videos, gps, etc. Has 2 Bluetooth capacity plus wired and wireless Apple Car Play and Android Audio. Ample access still to HVAC controls and vents. Also added covered USB port left of red button.

Also removed and replaced a lot of wires!

For those who installed component speakers in the doors, where did you mount the crossovers?

I installed mine in the trunk... but you could also put them into the doors. But I would only do this if your crossovers do not allow for any setting changes. On the other hand, you need to run additional wires to the trunk...

Following the advice of those that are wiser then I am Ive decided to just do everything at the same time.

Head and speakers pictured above. Still trying to decide what to do for the “subwoofer.” Same thing for the amp. The shop im working with is VERY knowledgeable. My dad used them for many years for all his car audio needs. This is gonna be fun.

If you end up running new speaker wires, I'd highly recommend covering them with something like this (PET braided sleeve):

    https://www.amazon.com/100ft-Expanda...071JH14WZ?th=1

It's more work up front, but it makes pulling the wires so much easier, especially if you are trying to fish them from the cabin into the doors.

Will definitely be running new cables. Thanks for the tip!

If you do end up going with that sleeve, either use a hot knife to cut it, or hit the cut end briefly with a lighter to keep it from unraveling on you while you slide it in place. There are some other tricks to using it, but I'm sure most would figure it out pretty quickly.

I hear you, but there's no free lunch, right?!

There are also these flat under-the-seat subs, but I have never heard one and I am not sure, if they really fit under the Viper seat(s)... maybe they fit behind a seat rather than under!?

Reviving an old thread to update folks on my progress. Towards the end of last year I ended up purchasing an Alpine amp pictured below….

    1102C530-B106-4DF7-8806-4CCBC05A0070.jpg

Also drilled into the trunk to run cables

    Slowly but surely making progress.

When you get the wire ready to run through, make sure you leave enough slack to leave a drip loop where it enters the cabin.

Forgive me for asking Steve but what is a “drip loop?”

A picture is worth a thousand words for this one:

Consider it a best practice...basically, if the wire ever gets wet, the water runs down and off the wire at the bottom of the drip loop instead of into the cabin.

Wire ferrules are also a nice touch when connecting larger gauge wires to your amp.

What they are and why to use them here:

I've learned a lot from watching that guy's channel, and have applied a lot of them to my own installs...he also tends to have links to the products he uses in the video description.

If you haven't already ordered speaker and/or power/ground wire, I'd highly recommend Knuconceptz: http://www.knukonceptz.com/

They carry really nice, high quality wire that is well insulated, and most importantly, flexible. They are also based out of Ohio, so things ship fast from them.

Yeah, this weather can eat shit. I want last weekend's warmth back.

My junk has been up on jack stands since December, and I'm just about ready to put it back on the ground tomorrow, only to be stuck by the recently salted roads.

Same here. I always get sucked into optimism with a string of nice days, only to have the rug yanked out. I keep thinking, there is no way they will put more gravel down for some flurries this time of year. It never fails, they blanket the roads again. GRRRRR.
