I guess you got to have it repainted and get a pair of hi flow cats.

That sure looks like a repair gone bad. Those rockers are made of aluminum and should not blister like that.

Something isn't right. I'm guessing you're running super rich or your spark timing is way off and the exhaust is glowing red from all the unburnt fuel burning in the exhaust.

That and what SRT Bill said.

Corrective action would be fixing whatever is causing you to burn fuel in your exhaust, repainting and getting high flow cats. But check for and fix the engine problem first.

I agree - That doesnt look right (OOrange Peel on the areas not blistering seem to make me think it might be a repaired area). Your TA isnt Orange #33 by chance is it?

He says on another page that it is #68. To get to that point that car must have some real issues, either with the car or use.

Sorry I didn't know you needed to provide a real last name some people still like to keep some anonymity. Let me know how I can update it to what is acceptable.

That is a poor repair. The material below the paint could not withstand the heat. We are looking at far more than the just the paint being attacked (which would discolor/wrinkle from heat).

Best option is to source a used rocker in good shape from a salvage yard and then have it painted by a reputable shop. In Southern CA, that should not be a problem.

Interesting...I actually have one small spot on the underside of the passenger side sill that looks just like that on my Gen 4. The paint bubbled a bit (about the size of a dime), and there's some white chalky stuff underneath. I'm the second owner of this car, and have no idea who owned it prior to me, nor what they did with it.

I need to take the sill off to readjust the tip on that side anyway, so I'll have to see if I can tell if a repair was attempted.

That’s too bad, I’d def do a repaint. No chance you have the max care warranty?

    Some further thoughts:

    For starters, strange

    1. The insulation is missing or compromised?

    2. The rear cat is partially plugged? I would use an IR camera to compare the left/right sill temps. You can also remove the sill and compare front and rear cat temps.

Looks like an older member on here bought it in Miami with about 7K miles and said they replaced the long block? Its a 2014 TA so I'm hoping to connect with the previous owners & you guys to get her back to her natural beauty! My mechanic is tied up for another 2 weeks before he can dig in. I did take it to smog today and the sensors weren't working maybe some issue with the cats or the new battery cleared the data?

I would pop a small piece of the bubbled material off as inconspicuously as I could and see what is under the paint. Is it body filler, or really thick paint from a repaint? I don't think factory paint over aluminum will bubble like that over such a large area, regardless of how much heat was applied.

Eeeek sad news I just found out this car was previously totaled and was bamboozoled by a dealer who gave me a fake carfax and odometer reading.

You need a good attorney right now! Dealer should have insurance, which is a good thing. A couple of recovery options for you -- if you don't want the car, then you would pursue a rescission claim and give it back, get your money back, etc. If you do want the car, you could measure damages by taking the difference in value between what you thought you were buying (i.e. a non-totaled car) and the value of what you actually received. Did you say this happened in Florida? Whereabouts?

Sensors are probably detached/inactive because the car is running extremely rich. Luckily, that's relatively easily to fix with a tune most of the time (or new plugs and wires if factory tune).

If the carfax was real, I think carfax covers you if they miss something.
If the carfax was fake, sue the crap out of the dealer. I'm sure CA has very strong consumer protection laws. I'd help you more, but I'm not licensed there. The laws might even cover the dealer misrepresenting it through a real but erroneous carfax. My concern is the paperwork typically has a lot of disclaimers in it. I'm pretty sure it can't be applied to fraud (but again, I'm not familiar with CA laws) but proving they knew and misrepresented is something else.

This looks like the Goon Squad Garage TA rebuild on YouTube. This issue ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNMzXsebHGo) shows the destroyed right lower rocker panel and I vaguely recall them getting a damaged panel to repair in another issue. I wonder where that car is now. Maybe someone subsequently laundered the title/car fax to hide a salvage title?

PappyG said in another post that his car has the standard X brace instead of the carbon fiber one. I just watched the last Goonsquad video about their Viper rebuild and it has the carbon X brace so I don’t think this is their car.
