Makes you wonder how many of these are out there? I do question why somebody did the frame recall on this car. If the goal was originality, that's no longer the case. Obviously, it's not a driver.

Built 5 days after mine, but has lower VIN. Interestingly, this car has both frame reinforcement recalls performed. Has a dent in the lower front frame rail on the drivers side. Needs new boots on the swaybar end links. Has period correct saggy headliner net pockets. Bad orange peel on the RH door stanchion. Dash is very, very good, but showing some outgassing near the dimmer thumb wheel and console top near shifter. PS floor carpet rolls down just like mine. Lumbar pump bulbs rotten too.

It took five (5) days to create the 96 GTS; two (2) days in chassis and three (3) days in final assembly. The first production GTS rolled off the assembly line on May 6, 1996.

Because CAAP assigned VINs after a batch of cars are produced, the number a car gets can be several places off

Early cars also had the Oil fill cap on the drivers side Valve cover. They quickly went to the Passengers side after some were built.

Wonder if the oil has ever been changed, EVER? Doesn't this block the filter from coming out?

Guess the good news is this thing will never be driven, so never need to change the oil.

Good point. It does block the oil filter. Mine was installed backwards and I had them redo it after I asked them how I change my oil filter. So this car probably has not had the filter changed and wouldn't need it. Whomever buys this probably won't be driving it anyway.

I thought it was possible to still get it out with some fenagling? Thank god mine was done right.

You could get it out but it's not easy. I'd imagine you would sprain a wrist trying to spin the filter out.

If this guy just invested the $70K and got 6% a year he'd have $300,430.95 now. lol Not to mention taxes, registration, storage, insurance, maintenance etc There has never been a car that was a good investment and never will be.

While I agree with your comments in general I believe there are some exceptions like a 1967 Ferrari Nart Spider. What are those bringing these days? $30 million???

You don't get to drive it and the money you make is trivial as compared to real investments. $66K - the 1996 MSRP - would be worth $554,000.00 today if it had been invested in equities. Maybe the guy has/had lots of money and didn't need investment advice. Maybe he just enjoyed looking at it like a painting or a sculpture that doesn't appreciate much. Maybe he has a large collection of cars and needs space. Not everyone is you.

I've never met a serious car collector who celebrates making any money when selling a car. It's a hobby, not a job. Most of the time they need space for something new or acknowledge the car is likely to be enjoyed more by someone else.

It's ironic, according to your logic, two of the stupidest people in the world helped start this club. Just think how many Vipers they own that are garage queens. Imagine how rich they could have been if they had never purchased a Viper. The shame they must feel.

I haven't heard any car collector bash you for modding your car or driving the heck out of it. Probably because they are happy that you enjoy your car the way you want to.

I just double-checked and mine was built the same day as the one for sale and is 64 off the VIN sequence. I understand the process, but this hilights how flakey the VIN can be. And yes, mine has the oil filler cap conveniently located right below the brake booster vacuum line.

How do you check the build date? If I recall, my VIN ends in ..0085 so I just assumed mine was the 85th one built. Seems that's not true?

It is funny.....If you go on forums for cryptocurrency....people are rabid about the "value" of coins that someone created out of thin air. Many are essentially worthless. Despite this... Never a bad comment. Here...each of us own an American classic that people aspire to........and people constantly trash it.
