New tire option for Gen V

Continental has a new 200tw tire on the way aimed at endurance use: AER, WRL, ChampCar, Lemons, SCCA Track Night in America and the like. Meet the ExtremeContact Force.

It will be interesting to see how this tire compares to the Advan A052, Cup 2 R, RE71R, etc.

It is really good news that there are more tire options on the Viper!

Wow, very cool. Options are good.
Will be interesting to hear the real world reviews.

Is a DOT street legal tire?

Weird ..according to the list of supported cars ..they only fit the GenV Vipers.

Stranger yet they include 2018 and 2019 Vipers but exclude 2013. Who knew???

I’d be curious how it compares to a Corsa with a 60 tread rating ........

Nice find Joseph, thanks for sharing!
Hopefully it won't heat cycle out quickly like I've heard the Cup 2 R does.
Tread pattern looks like you might be able to flip them on the rims, although that design can compromise performance.

I can tell you two things from it's tread pattern...it's going to suck in the rain and wet, and it's going to be quieter that the Toyo R888R, but not pretty quiet like the Corsa.

    Bruce,

I thought you'd find this interesting. Here is how the R888Rs compare to more modern tires that have been developed recently.

These continentals should be faster than any of these options. The 3R tires were developed for the Camaro ZL1 1LE

The actual section width size could be as wide or wider than the OEM tires on the gen V. I wouldn't go strictly on the 355 size.

In addition to width and section, I always like to see O.D. in a sizing chart. Any data on that yet?

I’ve been SUPER happy my continental contact sports. Having said that I would have been all over these!! Can’t wait to hear some feedback on them.

I saw this on GRM a couple of days ago...I'm very happy that Continental is coming to market with a real world variety of sizes that will work on the Mustang, Camaro, Viper and Vette chassis.

The treadwear ratings are all bullshit...there is no tire association or government agency to verify or even give data on what this means. The treadwear is what the manufacture wants it to be. Most of the "200" treadwear tires are much softer than you'd expect and usually are labeled 200 tread wear so they can meet a specific racing organizations rules. An example of this would be the Optima Street Car Challenge.

Does anybody actually believe that the Kumho V720 ACR tires that comes factory stock on the ACR-E isn't closer to a treadwear rating of a Hoosier DOT racing tire versus its stamped 200 treadwear rating?

    New R-compound Gen 2-3-4-5 Tire

    Not just G5, but G2-3-4-5

PartsRack should have these avail to order soon, ship date of June 1. No tech yet; competitive pricing.

355 not avail this model, and note the 18" rear is a 345-35-18, not an OE 30-series....

STAY TUNED for more info SOON

Exactly ! 355 is a testosterone thing, not so much a contact patch thing....

OK - so I would assume that the tire casing and belt package are probably similar to the Contact Sports - likely laid up on the same mandrels. Further assumption is that they simply wrap the casing with the same length and width cover with a different depth and compound, then toss them in the molds for vulcanizing. SO - do we have info on the OD of the Sports tires in these widths and sections? These trackers may be pretty much the same as street tires except for maybe 1/8" to 3/16" less OD and a few more revs per mile.

The Camaro ZL1 1LE 3R tires are faster than Hoosier R7's, this has been confirmed by many locals here. I run them on my McLaren

    Are they strictly trackers?

The add has mixed message. Says -
    "Semi-slick track tire"
"targeting diverse street tire road racing leagues across America"

And to even further "complicate" things....BFG makes the g-force Rival S 1.5 which has a 200 treadwear and is very popular in the Optima series. But there are serious rumors that the top sponsored BFG drivers get "special" Rival S 1.5's that they use to run the event and must return the tire to BFG at the end of the event. So even these 200 treadwear tires have ringers mixed in where the times are substantially faster than others running off the shelf Rival S 1.5's.

The Kumho V720 ACR became the hot ticket in the Optima Series but apparently they were too fast against the major tires sponsors of the event and they were banned even though they were 200 treadwear rating.

The new Eagle 3R's are excellent...especially considering the weight of the Camaro platform and how they handle that weight. I wish they had the same size offerings that they Continentals have listed. Obviously Goodyear likes the Camaro and Vette market more than the Viper market, lol.

See above, few people believe the V720 is a #200 tire. Extreme wear indicates more like 60F - 100R !

I think the Hoosier-Conti DNA blend bodes well for these new C-Force tires.

Get on my list for June delivery ? JonB@PartsRack.com THANKS

    C FORCE Tire Info Update

We’re still over a month away from the official launch date of June 1st, for the new Continental ExtremeContact Force. The exciting new tire is a competitor in the Extreme Performance Summer tire category, though it’s not designed to compete ... for the fastest lap times. The ExtremeContact Force focuses more on longevity, sacrificing some outright speed in the name of longer life. TireRack haven’t had an opportunity to drive the tire yet, but Continental says they used the Hankook Ventus R-S4 as the benchmark competitor during development. The Continental/Hoosier team has used the ExtremeContact Force for several ChumpCar races with satisfying results.

See TireRack reviews of the larger sizes of Hankook Ventus R-S4 for a taste of what to expect from the C-Force:

Thanks JonB, these are probably going to be a buy. Do we think the 315/30-18 will work for us without TC/ECS/ABS issues? That would be nice to go a little bigger than OEM for the fronts. Can you share Diameters when you get specs? OR maybe there is an equivalent tire we expect the sizes to mimic?
