Most surprising difference mods

Hi All,

So I have made some modifications to my viper, including ACR-E wing amongst others, but I just wanted to share the two mods that made the most surprising difference, even though they are only small.

Sound Deadening
I decided to carry out the window boss mod as a preventative measure, only to find out that both window regulators were broken (car has 2900 miles on it), so I ended up buying the repair kit and fixing them both too.

While I had everything out, I decided to fit sound deadening inside the door and I couldn’t believe the difference it made. The door actually almost sounds like a $100k car when it closes. Not hollow rattles or anything, its all gone. Even when driving all the echoing etc. completely gone.

You can see just inside the door where i placed it.



Moroso Spark Plug Wires
This one probably surprised me the most, the car always felt like it wanted to stall at low revs when turning a corner slow or something like that. I knew the battery was on its way out so I replaced that and also thought I would replace the OEM wires with the Moroso wires.

The difference is night and day, I really couldn’t believe such a trivial modification would make the car feel so different.

I would highly recommend these to anyone looking for something to do to their Viper, especially with the spring weather approaching.

+1 on sound deadening. I did a lot more than you, but yeah, helped a ton, and it was super easy. I'm considering doing the trunk area under the carpet next, but the doors helped a lot with the sidepipes and all.

I'm surprised spark plug wires can make any difference at all, unless they're just really old and worn.

+1 on the sound deadening on the doors. I did this on my Gen2 and was shocked. I also did the enclosure for the door speakers. Not only did the doors sound a ton better but so did the radio. Soo...I do it on all my Vipers. I will be doing the doors on my Gen5 when I get time.

For me, high flow cats from JonB. I couldn't believe the seat of the pants difference. That's usually a useless mod on most cars. I did it to save the paint on my rocker panels. I was pleasantly surprised...kind of in disbelief. Uncorked the system.

Amazon has plenty. I got Silless or something like that. You have plenty of room- get the thick stuff.

As far as door sill, I thought about that, but decided against it. Way too much heat, they're rubber and you'll end up with what is effectively a grease fire.

I have these also with a Belanger exhaust, it sounds amazing. When I bought the car it had some sort of titanium exhaust on it which i dint like so much.

Where did you guys get sound deadening material for the door? Also, are there any for the door sill where exhaust is?

It was pretty cheap, I’ve used a few different brands but they all seem pretty much the same to me.

I really should have done a video, it was easy to do. I was dreading doing it but the door components are pretty minimal and easy to work with. I upgraded the speakers to the 18 speaker system, so I was used to taking the door cards off.

The wires are short, but they are there nonetheless.

If you install the repair kit, plan to run to a hardware store for longer screws. The supplied ones are too short (others have confirmed the same issue I had). Also might want to wait for a hot day as trying to bend the regulator to fit the bracket isn't easy. I tried over the winter and gave up as the hole for the screws started to crack under the tension. Will try again this summer.

Good idea, I plan to do that when I do my window bosses too now!

Also +1 on the coil wires, made a HUGE difference on my viper. Mine use to break up a little at high rpm almost like a hesitation. Once I got the wires that was completely gone! Felt like it idles smoother as well. For such a cheap and easy thing I think all vipers should look at it!

Just finished adding the Rockville deadening material in the doors. Super easy install and it made a huge difference.....no more rattle or cheap door sound when you close it!

Quick question for the ones who have pulled their door panels off, how exactly did you do it? I looked at my door and im not seeing any screws popping out at me that I need to loosen. Anyone feel like pointing me in the right direction before I break something lol.

There are three bolts and a bunch of clips holding the door panel on.

1x 10mm bolt behind the plastic “SRS Airbag” sign on the top corner of the panel, it pops off.
1x torx bolt behind the inside door handle, its behind a little plastic piece that comes off.
1x torx bolt under the bottom plastic trim on the arm rest, just below the window controls. Pry it off and you will see the bolt.

Once you have these bolts removes, you can pull on the panel and it will come off.

Thanks for the sound deadening idea! I will be tackling the regulators this weekend and just ordered a sound deadener on amazon.

Add high flow cats to my list of musts. Relatively simple install (except exhaust clamp bots on both sides broke, nbd just buy two before you start). Rasp is 80% gone. Idle is sharp and crisp- you can hear every cylinder distinctly. Doors/exhaust are much cooler.

I'm not even sure it's much louder, aside from the initial startup.
