Thread: Safe

    Safe

I bought a set of wheels and had the tires dismounted. When I saw them for the first time I noticed this damage on one of the fronts. I think I know this can happen on dismount sometimes. Can these be remounted reliably/safely? (Toyo R888R)

The damage goes up the inside of the sidewall about 1/4-3/8 inch.

I would not run them. You will have problems finding a tire shop that will mount them.

to me, that looks like damage from mounting. bead gets "pinched" between mounting head and rim edge of wheel, and installer basically keeps wheel turning and damages that. I doubt it would leak, but under extreme gripping conditions, you may have some issues.

No way I'd run them on anything I care about. Looks like a good candidate for pressurized air to creep into the damaged areas and cause a separation in the sidewall.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Maybe someone local can use the rears which still have a bit of life in them.

That should NEVER happen whether mounting or dismounting!
