    Hello, new member, old viper

Hello, I'll be honest I started at Viper Club of America, internet researching the car I just bought sent me there since someone who 'appears' to be a previous owner is/was a member there. However...after 3 days of waiting for my membership to be approved....a friend recommended I come here instead.

    Anyway...

    Just bought this:

It is relatively low mileage at 18k but its been around the block
It had some front end damage that got fixed and I picked it up to rock as an occasional commuter in the nice weather.

When I got it the hood alignment (as you can see in photos) sucked. I played around with it for a couple hours and managed to get it a little 'better'....something tells me based on all my reading it will never be perfect and I feel disinclined to pull the front nose off and try shimming the brackets....maybe I'll change my mind but for now I was able to cheat the bumper cover up 1/4 or so inch on each side. I know this is a common problem and has been asked many times by now but I am open to other suggestions that don't involve tearing the front end down....I have enough projects in my garage already

I suspect I will be perusing the archives here quite frequently as I come up to speed with common problems, issues, and resolutions.

Welcome DodgeStang to the forums. We are fairly new so our archives are not that extensive. If you don't see what you are looking for just post in the Gen forum and someone will likely come along with the answer.

My best buddy has a very similar color stang to yours...

Thanks....the viper is a bit of a pain to put on it though...drags the air damn and hits underneath before the back tires hit the ramps so I have to use wood. I never realized JUST how low these things are.....or how wide

Well they did sell a million mustang by something like mid year 1966 didn't they so I can understand. Almost had a few accidents from rubber neckers driving home with the viper on the trailer

But with that said.....my mustangs do get a fair bit of attention in their own right. This one is faster than the viper in the 1/4 mile and makes an 'entrance' from several hundred yards away.

    Real question number 1

I 'assume' there was a stock air box here and the PO removed it and/or it was damaged and not replaced....so I've got hot air intake now....am I correct that there should be some boxing here or is this actually stock?

    Hello Dodgestang.

Yes the picture you posted of the metal tubes and Air Filters is NOT stock. The stock air box is a large rectangular black plastic box and the air enters it via the NCA duct on the front hood, the stock air box holds two air filters but you can get performance filters from K&N. You can also modify the stock air box to get better air flow by cutting out the rain deflector inside the box and then fabricating a plate to cover the top of the box.

You should also get Silicone Smooth tubes to connect the air box to the throttle body's.

Gen II Stock Air Box and Factory rubber intake tubes.

Gen II Stock Air Box and Silicone Red Smooth tubes (much better air flow)

    Hope that helps
