Thoughts on lemon law d Viper ACR

Not sure if anyone has heard of this car but it's pretty cheap. You can read the description but it's on it's third motor after the first 2 failed. The second motor was installed under Lemon Law and so carries that title with it.

Well the following statement "Comes with a lemon law title due to the engine recall that ALL of them have, the engine was replaced but the owner filed to get out from under it in 2016 when the engine failed for a second time and was sitting for 3 months and at the time dodge did not know what to do with it. The 3rd engine was installed with all issues updated and there has been no more issues with it since then." is straight full of BS. I don't trust people that lie to sell a car, and certainly not those that make all other cars sound bad because of their experience.

3 engines! Either they beat the living hell out of it, it was poorly maintained (read low oil level), or that after the first failure (see first 2 reasons) it was repaired improperly, like not replacing cooler and lines.

Is 150K considered 'cheap' for a 17,000 mile ACR, with the lemon law title? Just curious.

They will take quite a bit less, that's just the advertised price. I just don' t know how you go about inspecting it and such. If there is no damage to the car at all and everything was in the motor that has been replaced maybe worth a look.

Make an offer contingent on an oil sample sent to Blackstone labs. It will let you know what’s going on inside the motor. Sample the differential and transmission fluid as well

Listing also includes a $139,980 asking price in the text below the photos, which matches the asking price on an eBay ad this week.

I'm going with poorly maintained if it was three engines within the same owner, with improperly repaired being a close second.

Spoke to the dealer who said the first motor was lost at 200 miles and replaced right away. The second motor was done at around 8k miles in 2017, both under same ownership. The Carfax is spotty at best and I will need to contact that dealers as there is no record of the first motor being replaced under the Carfax. So, if you only looked at the Carfax it notes only 1 motor issue and it was re-acquired by Dodge on that date.

Buying anything from Mr. House is a gamble, and getting a branded car for NOT cheap. Pass........................ Whoever buys it better calculate the cost of another motor in the final bill.

I wouldn't buy anything from this guy. Insurance fraud.

Wait a minute. Steel brakes and TA interior makes it more valuable doesn't it? Call it a TA/ACR.

Yup. It's a GTC ACR with TA interior, 18 speaker stereo, GTS-R Blue with black stripes. I get this guy is a shit and will most likely pass. I almost partnered with a guy who owned a dealership who was extremely shady but he did sell some very good cars. I think if I had a really good inspection on it with oil analysis I could stomach the purchase. He is 2 hours away from BJ Motors which is the only place I'd trust to do that but he isn't taking it there. Logistically this is just too tough.

    Andy is a character.

I would pass on this one at anything over $115k, and even then I would have a pit in my stomach.

If I was still at the Dealership I would not even be remotely interested in this machine. I can almost guarantee the individual who acquired this machine paid a pittance ,since a branded title , regardless of the reason, is a scarlet letter for resale, trade in , etc. I would wager this machine was picked up under 100k.

Haha but you forgot it would need to be TA Orange as well and have TA and ACR decals!

IMHO the Carfax doesn't represent much anymore.

I re-checked the Carfax on my Viper 1 year after I bought it and discovered multiple erroneous record entries.
One record said it was up for sale on a lot in New Jersey at a time when it was parked in my garage in SoCal.
But was able to get it all corrected thru Carfax Support.

Maybe the Carfax can still provide some background info.. just won't give it much weight anymore.

My understanding, and maybe it's a CA thing, FCA won't resale a lemon law car twice. Second buyback it goes to the crusher was what I was told.

If you could get it for $120K and were planning on doing a 9 liter anyway, this is the perfect car.... Oh wait, steel brakes? I'd go $108K on it.
The owner with the engine failures wasn't checking his oil level, plain and simple. Would be good to know if the 3rd (current) motor was installed AFTER that owner sold it. If so motor will be fine...

I know the old owner of the car. It is solid and no issues with it. It was common to have engine replacements in gen V's. That was faulty engines from FCA. I have been with this ACR many times. The last owner purchased it used and never had a issue.

How is it on its third engine?

Previous owner is a good friend. It was up here in MN for a few years, he bought it in Texas, drove it home to MN and enjoyed it for a while. I could put you in contact with him if anyone is interested.

He sold it on a whim, and if I was given a heads up I would of bought it.

That's big money for a car with stories, no ACR diffuser, and not all that well cared for based on the pics showing some pretty decent swirls on the front bumper and scuffs on the interior.
