Fire Extinguisher Install

I don't know if anyone has seen a cat fire on a viper, it ain't pretty. Some SCCA autox venues also require an in-car fire extinguisher, plus, I had to find something else to do while I am waiting for the snow to recede.

This is a billet quick release mechanism that is fitted to a custom bracket.The bracket bolts to the front oem seat bolts. It is totally out of the way and does not interfere with the passenger at all. Most importantly, it can be easily reached from the drivers seat.

I have this same set up on my Gen 4 but there are two problems with this set up. Its very easy for the passengers feet to release the clasps that hold the bottle in place. This has happened several times. And actually it is not very easy for the driver to release the clasps while seated as its a long reach, and if harnessed in, it takes even much longer to get at. Better to mount on the driver side for quicker access but then it gets in the way of the crotch belt and your feet. Easy to install is right but the location and clasps have need for improvement.

Wouldn't a seat belted or baby seat clamped in set up for the passenger seat work best. Like a baby seat set up belted it or clamped in you the anchor points, it would provide the easiest access, secure position and then be completely removed once leaving the track? Not sure if they make something like this but would be best of both worlds.

There are no clasps, just a simple main release pin. That is why I went with the billet release. I have 6 point belts and it does not interfere, 5 points might be a problem.

6 point belts solve the interference with restraints, plus. you do not even know the extinguisher is there. This wasn't thrown in, it was thought out. The key is exact location and the billet release mechanism. I agree totally, the clasp type release mechanism does not belong in the viper, that is an opinion and some may disagree. This set-up is clean, neat and safe.

As I said before, anyone that has seen a cat fire would not be without an extinguisher. To go one step further, a friend saved his viper because he had an extinguisher, but, he still suffered over $5,000 in damage. In that case the car would have been a total loss without the extinguisher. Lastly, that was not the only viper fire I have seen.

I had a fire on my cobra. Not fun at all $14000 worth of damage, used all of a 2ltr AFF extinguisher and it still kept burning, I then ran into a nearby shop and grabbed their extinguisher which was a lot bigger. That got it out I always have one in my cars now

There are two popular sizes that can fit into that front seat position, this is the larger of the two, I believe it is five lbs. The two lb extinguishers would be too small in my opinion, they are more like eye candy. I will check the size and part number later today.

Can someone measure the centers on the Gen 4 seat forward hold-down bolts. I think they are the same as the Gen 5, if that is the case, I might be able to make a run of a 100. The quantity would control the price.
