Have any members used Amsoil in there gen 5 of so is there any gain over pennzoil.

This will get a ton of personal recommendations and biases and you will get to wade through many individuals thoughts and data. Mobil 1 was the initial oil used for the Viper and it is hard to say anything negative about that product. When the oil contract changed with FCA Pennzoil worked with SRT Engineers to come up with a viscosity formula for the Viper as they did not have a 0-40W in the new Ultra Platinum Synthetic made from Natural Gas. The consensus given from many of the SRT Engineers back over a decade ago was the Shell/Pennzoil oil was fantastic. FCA even sent Pennzoil Engineers out to discuss the oil with many of the Dealerships and to their credit they stated there were other quality oils out there ( notably not bad mouthing anyone ). The major selling point , at the time, was how pure and clean the Pennzoil was since it was the first oil derived from Natural Gas. Just a little note to give credit to SRT, Shell/Pennzoil Engineers, for cooperating and making a specific viscosity for the Snake -- now used in Hellcats , Trackhawks, Demons, etc.

So, regardless of what you decide, Mobil 1, Pennzoil , etc. you can feel confident that Dodge and SRT did have a hand in what was chosen and tested for the Viper.

Winkles recommended Mobil 1 15W-50 to my face, so I use that.

No argument there , Bryan, Dick recommended that to Mark and I for all guys tracking their Vipers years ago. For the average owner 0-40W stands tall and as I mentioned there will be a plethora of comments coming and the OP will have to wade through tons of personal opinions and when he is finished he may be more confused than when he started , ha,ha.

I wish we had old Tom FOLG ( fuel , oil and lubricants guy ) still on here , boy did he give folks a detailed analysis --- often so complex there might have only been a few who understood all of it.

For more oil ideas my wife uses Canola when cooking --- let the saturated fats and taste gurus comment on that oil debate,hehe.
