Quick question about oil fill level

Happy Sunday everyone. I recently had the oil/filter changed and I check the dipstick today after a decent drive. I have included a photo below. The oil is at about the “S” of safe. If that is too much, I can always suck some out from the dipstick area with a pump I have. Or is this ok? 33C9CF44-1662-4DF4-8216-186FD31A5CD2.jpeg

** I know that too much oil can cause the rods to hit the oil and froth the oil and cause engine damage. Just don’t know how much this translates to in this engine.

Im not sure if its ok but the next time you change make sure you add the right amount

If I did it myself it would have been correct to the milliliter. This is why I don’t trust anyone to do anything besides me anymore. Haha. I’m sure most of you will agree.

How long did it sit after you shut engine off. Really should check it within 5 minutes of shutdown. Track guys often run an extra quart so you're probably ok.

I checked it about two minutes after turning engine off on a level spot. Not sure what a 1/4 inch on the dipstick translates to in the engine.

Last change I did I measured out how much I took out and it was almost 11 exactly. I put in 11 and have measured cold, within 1 minute if shutdown, 5 minutes, and 19 minutes. The lowest it ever measured was dead middle the fill. When cold it's just over. I also changed it on a. Lift and allowed it to drain for over an hour.

I would say you're fine.

I am going to check the level when it’s completely cold and compare it to the above photo. My guess is that it’ll be fine as well but might as well use the pump that I used to change my boat oil with to get some out.

Did you look at both sides of the dip stick? if so the level could be as much as a 1/4" difference. I always go by the lower mark. Also when I do my oil changes i'll let it drain for some time and make sure the car is slighlty angled toward the drain plug and then fill with 11 quarts. Once completed and engine has been started and run to check for any leaks let it settle and now check both sides of stick for you cars proper levels.

Ah, you're learning about our easy to read dipsticks! On a '16, the hashmark area is 1 qt, if that helps.

best way ive found to read the dipstick is to insert the dipstick with the hashmarks facing the engine, then the smeared side will be on the back of the dipstick

I have been told that you should insert the dipstick so that you can read "Engine" on the top of the yellow ring from the front of the car. If you have the newer dipstick the round yellow pull is parallel to the windshield. On the older dipstick the yellow ring sits at about a 45 degree angle to the windshield.

It should go in two ways - 180 degrees apart.

So, just wanted to post the end result of the extra oil situation. I used an oil extractor and removed about 1 quart of oil and I am just above the “safe” line. I probably would have been alright but I wanted to learn myself and pass on the info as well.

I tested your theory. It goes in very easy one way and if I flip it 180 degrees it goes in but it takes some effort as if it sticks in one spot. Buy it did go in.

So I had the oil change done by a local exotic shop. So I’m not sure what they put in exactly.

Check your receipt. Should be exactly 11 qts including what's in the filter.
