    Steve M, ..yes, the Bartec was used instead of a magnet.

    I assume that my Autel and your Autel would would also work, but one needs the DRB III to program the sensors to the TPM.

    osuaero, the only way I know to avoid the DRB III would be to clone the old sensors and hope the TPM "remembered" them. I would guess it would...though, I have on occasion seen Gen III and IV Viper TPM's lose their memory over the winter even while maintained on a battery tender. That has happened to me 3 times...all corrected by reprogramming with a DRB III.

    Finally, for those who mistakenly had Gen V TPS installed in your Gen III or IV Viper...once again, we could do nothing with them today.

    Thankfully, that's never happened to me, but if it does, I now know what to do.

    Sharing my experience with 2008 TPMS

    Recently replaced tires (old) and TPMS sensors (batteries dead) at a tire shop, they said they could install and program the sensors correctly, but it turned out they couldn’t.
    After talking to a couple of other tire shops asking some questions they couldn't answer I didn’t want to mess around with any other tire shops so I investigated the installed sensors it was “CUB UNI Sensor” 25 $ each.
    Talked with a support guy at CUB ELECPARTS that really know what he was talking about (not that common) and he confirmed that they have a tool that could be used for programming the sensors wireless (didn’t want to remove the new tires) and it was possible to select frequency and protocol that will support Dodge Viper 2008 TPMS.
    I bought the programming tool “CUB Sensor AID” 120 $, you could of course also use the tool to scan/diagnose the sensors also, (I did before programming and as I suspected the sensors was not programmed accordingly).
    With this tool you don’t need to use any magnet or something to wake them up, just be close to each sensor.
    -Lower the air pressure below 25 PSI
    -Select the right protocol Dodge viper 2003-2010 52088990AC
    -Select the right frequency 433 MHz
    -Enter the sensor id’s (in decimal) (same as printed on the old sensors), one wheel at the time and update that sensors
    Which corner (LF,RF,RB,LB) doesn’t matter, at least 2008 TPMS doesn’t care it just read all of them.
    Remember to adjust the tire pressure after done with programming.
    Run diagnose on the tool to make sure everything is saved as it should be.
    I didn’t need to change or mess with anything in the TPMS module, just programming the sensors in the right way and after 2 miles the TPMS warning lamp turned off.

    That information is a really big step forward for those struggling with the programming issue.

    Are we to assume that you had the old sensors available for cloning?

    Yes, luckily the tire company hadn't thrown them away so I brought them home as a souvenir even if the batteries were out, didn't know then that I would need them later on.

    I should also mention that when I went through all the available protocol and options in the tool I saw that it also had support for updating the sensors wireless with Dodge Viper 2013 – 2018 56029400AE, but I can’t confirm that it works.

    DIY TPMS tools have come a long way over the past few years, and they have also really come down in cost.

    Looks like Gen 3/4 owners now have another solid option that is known to work for these cars.

    It should be noted that Gen 5 Vipers have a slightly different (and way more useful) TPMS system - it is supposed to be self learning, so none of this *should* be required.

    On my Gen 3, I used an Autel MaxiTPMS PAD and sensors to clone mine. I used a TPMS magnet to wake up the old sensors to broadcast their ID, but you can read the ID off the TMPS if they are removed from the wheel.

    You can have your new sensors programed and ready to go before heading to the tire dealer.

    Yes...but...most of the calls that I receive on this issue are after the fact. In such cases, tire shop (or dealer) installs sensors, throws away old sensors, then find out that they cannot program new sensors to the Viper.

    Yes, cloning works...as was firmly established many years ago by Dan Lesser...who is sti quite willing to help all owners in this matter.

    As documented in this thread, some of these misadventures can be rectified with the proper tool(s). However, some require removing the new sensors, and starting over.

    The worry at CJDR dealerships has to do with obtaining the correct "Viper" sensors...as 2003-06 and 2008-10 use the same sensor. The 2013 2017 Vipers use a different sensor that cannot be made to work in the Gen III and IV Vipers.

    Bottom line...don't run out to your local tire emporium and starting buying stuff before you have thoroughly checked on exactly what sensor is needed and just how will they plan to program them...using whst device.

    Final note: Consider getting your Viper parts, tires, sensors, etc from this Forum's sponsors and save yourself a lot of grief !!
