Multi Region Viper Cruise to Utah Pic heavy

It was a passing mention at the PCH run last year that we need to do more of the multi day trips and in Feb this year we did a dry run to Utah planning a 5 day 4 night trip to the red canyons and a bonus day to Vegas.

With the pandemic, we were worried about businesses being closed, or even participation. Figured we would be lucky to get 20 cars, and we almost did. 19 registered and 18 cars made the trip. We had participation from AZ, CA, NV, IN, and LA.

Itinerary was pretty simple; drive, eat, drink, laugh, relax, repeat. With some hikes for good measure.

Day 0: CA members drove the day before to start the cruise from Phoenix



Day 1: Phoenix to Bryce
Met early in the outskirts of Phoenix



We got a visitor, and Angel made friends right away, he was going to need it later.

En route to our first stop past Flagstaff. Some of us in the front were VERY lucky to miss some elk crossing the freeway, but unfortunately one car nicked the elk’s leg with the corner of the front bumper. Nothing major, but could have been a lot worse.

3 of us got pulled over on this last leg to Bryce. Only one was lucky enough to get a warning


We arrived in Bryce Canyon around 5:30 local time, freshened up and had dinner across the street. Immediately followed by relaxing by the pool with plenty of beverage options at hand.

Day 2: Bryce Canyon
Day 2 started early for some of us who wanted to catch the sunrise over the hoodoos

Everyone was hungry at this point and we headed to IDK BBQ for lunch


After lunch and yet another gas stop, some of us headed to Boulder on Route 12, also known as the journey through time. It was just fantastic, extremely smooth black top, excellent views and curves


Mike apostrophe s [if an admin is reading this, any idea when this will issue will be resolved?] GTS-E was just eye catching. You cannot miss this car from a mile away

Back to the hotel, and a lot of kids were eager to get some rides. Our joint Oregan and AZ member Jim took the kids for a cruise and they were all grins


Dinner followed and the usual pool side beverage gathering


Pete and Jen handed out the t-shirts to commemorate this trip. Excellent design and perfectly soft and comfortable material. Designed and organized by our AZ crew chief, Ms. Hammer



We were treated to some great live music by our very own Jeff Binder, set the night off perfectly

Day 3: Bryce Canyon to Zion National Park through Cedar Breaks Monument and Kolob Canyon
Day 3 started early again for a couple of us that wanted the perfect tunnel picture. No traffic, perfect lighting



Saw the sun coming up so Pete and I pulled over



We wanted to get the caravan heading to Cedar Breaks as they drove through the tunnel, so Lance and I drove out ahead to set ourselves up for the pictures

It was a beautiful drive to Cedars breaks monument. Sweeping curves through the mountains, by lakes, relaxed driving vs making noise

From here, we headed out to Kolob Canyon, after yet another gas stop

Kolob Canyon was magnificent. We were so close to the mountains and they just tower over everything

After Kolob, we drove into Zion, had lunch, checked in and put our feet up by the pool to relax and catch up. Dinner followed across the street where Eddie made a toast



We celebrated Krista apostrophe s birthday

And the shenanigans began

Ended the day with the daily routine, sitting by the pool, beverages, jumping in the pool and the word is there was some Bollywood dancing

Day 4: Zion
Several options were provided to folks to explore and participate in activities as they please. Due to covid, the entrance to the main park was limited. Some were lucky to get an early pass to go hike in the main canyon. A couple of us drove the scenic route 9 early am, before we did the same run again with a larger group later that morning.

We were lucky to be first in line to go through the tunnel. It was VERY loud


We went to the end of the park and turned around to stop at the Checkboard Mesa





At this point, it was getting close to lunch and we headed back





Most took to relaxing for the afternoon, but some of us were able to get passes to take the shuttle into the main canyon

Glad no one was attacked

Views were just out of this world


AZ member John arranged for some jeep tours. 24 of us were able to go on this tour which took us over different mesa’s outside the Zion park. The views were never ending and steep in some places. On the way back, we were hit by some heavy thunderstorms

Day 5: Vegas or home
Again an early day for some that wanted to hike. Another fantastic hike and amazing views


Wasn’t expecting to see this on the hike we took. You can see route 9 curving through the canyons. Just beautiful


Around 9 was when most everyone headed out, either heading home or going to Vegas. Those driving to Phoenix drove through the Kailab forest and the Vermillion hills




For guys that went to Vegas, this is the only picture we took, because as the saying goes……


After a great 6 days, drove home, full thorough car wash by the professionals, and thinking about where to go next….



I see these multi region multi day events becoming an annual thing and more participation in the coming years. Many ideas shared for where the next cruise should be to and plans will be made in the coming months.

Wow, I am stoked, what a trip!!! My wife and I went to Zion in 2018 hiking, also did a day trip to Bryce... we love Zion, that's for sure, did the Angel's Landing and Narrows hike... one if not the best vacation we ever had....

Seeing these many Vipers driving the road we drove back then is so amazing, brings back lots of great memories .... wish we could go back to Zion, but the pandemic does not allow us to....

I wish we had more time to hike, the views are just amazing. A few folks went on the narrows hike, but not Angels landing. We will be back there another time to just do some hikes. The shuttles into the main canyon were lottery based and messed up our plans, but still a great trip nonetheless.

You need to do Angel's Landing, the final part of the hike and the views are literally breathtaking! We want to do the Subway hike if we manage to get there again, if you don't know this one, google it. It actually starts/ends outside the Zion valley/park ;-)
