Squeak Coming From Driver s Side Front Wheel

    Hi All,

I took the ACR out for a spin last week and noticed a mild squeaking noise coming from the drivers side front wheel. There are three scenarios under which the squeal is audible. The first is occasionally when the car is crawling at an extremely low speed (less than 5 mph) in a straight line, the second is when the car is going over relatively bumpy roads (still "Viper appropriate" roads but not smooth asphalt), and the third is when the car is turning left at full lock or near full lock (again, at slow speeds). The first scenario causes the squeak only some of the time; scenarios 2 and 3 seem to cause this squeak almost 100% of the time.

I have read on the forums that some of these cars left the factory with inadequately lubricated ball joints but I am not knowledgeable enough to discern whether this particular squeak is a symptom of that particular problem. Once again I am leaning on the expertise of those in the forum who may be familiar with this issue. Just looking to see if it’s just part and parcel of owning a handmade car or something I should be proactive in rectifying. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!
    Johnny

FYI, I have experienced this and still do but I have no idea what causes it. All that can be said is that it is a faint squeak that seems to occur randomly. I didn’t look into it enough to try to notice exactly when it happens but it definitely was occurring in a way where I couldn’t pin point exactly what was causing it. Looking forward to someone chiming in on a solution.

I would first check your wheel bearing and then grease the control arms while you are at it. It would take 15-30 minutes.

Thanks BSLSK - I'll check that out and report back!

sadil - I think we may have the same thing happening - definitely super faint but hoping we can come up with a solution and get rid of it.

Do you run spacers? I do and I always thought I might have caused damage because of it but I also run them on all corners and only the drivers left seemed to be making the noise.

If you end up taking it to a dealer remove the spacers. They will claim spacers increase the load on the bearings and stuff. They would deny any warranty claim if the car still has a warranty.

Sadil, I don’t run spacers on my car. As it sits, it is bone stock (which isn’t as fun, I know...)
