I am almost ready to get the engine out, and I have the heads off.
My question is, should I take it out as an assembly with the transmission or just the engine (which I would prefer)?
Thanks!

Getting to some of the bell housing bolts is a bitch without a seriously long extension. Since you have a racecar, I'd just drain the trans, remove the shifter handle and pull it all.
If you are going to keep it connected you should use an engine leveler to manipulate it as your pull. I didn't want to risk accidentally hitting the windshield (since they are allegedly unobtainium) with the tail housing, so I just separated the trans and pulled the engine by its self when I did it. Since you already have the heads and intake off getting to the bell housing bolts where they meet the engine is trivial since you can loosen them from the top with a wrench or ratchet.
Okay awesome, thanks, looks like both are a good option, I might try engine only, also to save on space in the garage lol

Having pulled an engine in and out of these cars I would split it

A 20" long extension with a 10" wobble extension. Makes the top bellhousing screws gravy.

Haha, thanks, that's very helpful! Got all the bellhousing bolts off today, was easy with everything out, so it's pretty much ready to pull, hopefully in the next few days!
I am thinking of using the head bolts for hoist attachment points, that should be okay, right?
