New Gen V Owner Any Tips Tricks or must haves

Hey All,

Finally picked up my new 1 of 1 Anodized Carbon 2016 ACR-E last week and wanted to know if there are some owner tips, tricks, or things i MUST do or buy to make the Viper experience that much better. I'm curious to hear what everyone has learned from these cars over the years and what are some things to do or look out for.

I know 1 thing for sure, check the oil, ALL THE TIME.

Congrats! great cars you will have a ton of fun with it.
Check your oil religiously you right on there. If you take it to the track add an extra qt of oil to reduce oil starvation problem. The must haves and parts to make your viper perform better we have an extensive list of parts we mfg that make your viper that much better. I would just drive it for awhile have fun and get use to the car and then figure out what you want todo with the car. Letting your viper stretch it legs at the track can be very addicting

Where are you in Illinois? John Gastman is a good friend, even though we were Competitors selling Vipers over the years, but the best situation for you, is he has a high quality Viper Tech at his place in Roanoke , Illinois. He is semi retired , but like our shop , the Viper Tech still sees a reasonable number of Snakes so you have someone up on the car.

The second cat delete would be a good option . It keeps the cabin cooler and sounds better.

If you purchased a Maxcare Extended Service contract keep in mind many changes will void your coverage. Not sure you have done that, just throwing that out there in case.

I just did the bellanger high flow cat pipe install last weekend on my 17 ACR-E and it is the only must-have modification I've seen so far. Eliminated the brain-splitting drone without increasing volume much and dramatically dropped side sill temps.
Yours being a GTC with some extra sound deadening would be a really fantastic combo with the decreased drone from the high-flow cats

Congrats! You just purchased one of the best true driver's cars on the planet. My tip would be to take your time getting acquainted with the car to learn its mannerisms and develop a good level of comfort at a spirited pace prior to beginning to push the Viper through its paces. I think you'll find shifting gears is quite smooth with a great clutch and heel/toe becomes intuitive rather quickly. Have fun, be safe, and enjoy!

Must haves: Spare key and fob, CAN bus capable OBD II code reader capable of clearing codes that cause limp mode, 2 quarts of oil in a leak proof container, tire plugging kit as the cans of "tire snot" may not work without help, cell phone, flashlight, and a tool kit. I also carry a variety of the Generation appropriate fuses and a few relays in each Viper, jumper cables, and as small lithium battery jump box.

By the way, for Gen I, II, III, and IV Vipers, I carry a one inch long bare metal paper clip.

Love that option! One day will get a full exhaust with no cats.

It does have 3yrs remaining on the warranty, so i will enjoy it as long as the modification bug doesnt hit

How hard was the install? Do it yourself? I'm not liking the drone of the stock cats/exhaust right now so this i might do soon.

^^^ 1000% agree that this is a necessary mod. It's all upside (better sound, no drone, lower sill temps). Install is fine, just be patient with it.

Thanks! this isnt my 1st Viper, I previously owned a 99 ACR with a Roe setup! That car without ANY traction control took getting used to for sure.

CONGRATS!

1. Check your oil level often (I do it after every drive)
2. If your battery dies you can open the trunk with the physical key and key hole by the plate
3. Jon B/Belanger high flow cats if the drone bothers you
4. DSE window bosses and Viper Store window regulator reinforcements are a must!

I second the window bosses and you mite want to install a front tow hook. Next to imposable to get these cars on a rollback with out one, that is if you ever need a tow.
DSE makes a heat shield for the intake that is worth adding.
That is a good looking car by the way, enjoy.

I can’t believe nobody has said it yet but clear film the whole car with self healing xpel plus boomerang mud guards to save that amazing paint. You’ll never have to polish, wax, clay bar or paint correct the car again. Congrats!!

The entire car is already xpel coated and ceramic on top of that. But since the car was tracked some there are markings in the xpel that drive me crazy. Makes it look like paint chips all over but it's just the xpel doing its job. May have to have the xpel redone, but it's pricey.

What are the window bosses and what do they do?

They are the clips or bosses that hold glass to mechanism. The OEM plastic one are breaking with some frequency (especially on Gen V's)..giving a rattle in some cases if part of boss is intact...and a stuck window in other cases where it has totally broken. DSE bosses solve this quite nicely. Sadly, the regulators are failing with an equally alarming frequency as well. One can make the case to replace the bosses and evaluate the regulators at the same time...either replacing or splinting said regulators. Fun times.

I have the Ipsco front tow hook on mine. It was black but I rattle canned it Viper red and looks great.

personally, a catch can would be in my top 5. they do work. you don't want that crap going back in to your intake. DSE carries that along with a lot of other great stuff. beautiful color combo on your car btw.

Suggest you check your battery as ACR's and ACR-E's both came with a small flooded lead acid battery, size V4 that has a shorter service life...and, can leak with aggressive driving. The standard battery is a size T5, but you would need to buy the standard brackets to hold it in place. If you intend to track it, go lithium which is smaller and much lighter...see sponsor DSE for details. If you plan primarily street driving, I personally favor a quality AGM battery that will last longer and does not leak acid.
