    Tire wear before replacing

    Just curious, for the individuals that track your cars, when do decide to replace your tires? When they reach the wear bar? After the wear bar? Not until they are showing cord?
    Tire in question is the Khumo ACR tire. Rear tires are original, date code 3715, 4500 miles, tracked once. Tires are almost touching the wear bar and I’m doing Laguna in a couple weeks. If I can get 1 more safe track day from them That would be great, but my gut is telling me otherwise.

    Quick question , is the car driven there or do you trailer the ACR?

    Car is driven to and from the track. About 70 miles each way.

    Follow your gut , especially since you are not trailering the car. 3+ year rears ( heat cycled and aged ) will not grip equal to a set of new front tires , regardless if they are the same make/brand. Just get a set, drive up and have a blast.

    Better to follow your gut, than just have crazy guts!!

    do you have a contingency plan if you cord them at the track to get the. car home?

    Good point both of you. Looks like putting the new rubber on is my best option.

    If you want to maximize your track time. New rubber is a good idea! Nothing worse than only getting in a session or two in and having to stop because tires are shot. Been there done that, no fun. Plus Laguna 105 days aren't cheap.

    Be sure to keep the"Hot" tire pressures between 31-33. If you drive hard, its a good idea to do a cool down/slower lap or two after 2-3 fast Hot laps. Keeping an eye on those hot tire pressures will be a key to them lasting. Over heating the Kuhmos is a quick way to blister or cord them, especially the fronts, and especially if you are getting understeer. Pulling the 6 hood vents and the 2 fender vents will really help eliminate some understeer. The down side will be lots of debris from the vents.

    Yeh what they sad

    I get 2x 15-20 min sessions on a set of fronts then corded . Suckssss

    I change them when they're about to cord....sadly. Maybe 3-4 sessions for me others, like Steve...2 sessions LOL. But if you're not competing or trying to beat the clock they will last just fine especially for HPDE days. You'll be fine with a fresh set and watching your tires pressures and temps as others have mentioned. Have fun!

    change your setups and maybe look at driving style. We get 1-2 full test days days on front Kuhomos no problem pro driver and amateur drivers. Drive to fuel stop 45-60 minute runs . 3-5 full test days on rear Kuhomos no problem. Track surface type ,temp and nitro play part also. Always go with your GUT and live by the 7P rule . 1500.00 for tires vs cost of car

    31-33 hot tire temp, Thanks for the advice. I was going about 3 psi above that number. Exhlr8, I will be out there on the 21st. I found out to late about next weekend, only thing that’s available now is the advanced group. Only 3 track sessions under my belt (will be 2nd in this car) doesn’t qualify me for it 😭😭. Thanks again everyone, new rear tires install next week!
