What parts should I keep

Just got my ACR/TA back Tuesday night with the 9 liter Extreme engine upgrade. I plan to take it High Plains Raceway on Sunday. Hopefully the weather holds as I will be taking my Kuhmos.

My question though is what take off parts should I keep? Mark Jorgensen returned a bunch of parts taken off the car. I don't even know what all is in the boxes but I think they include front and side brake ducts (I upgraded to OEM CF parts), black standard tail light panel (again went with OEM CF). original flywheel, original cam, original crank, original CATs, original exhaust manifolds, Autoblip (brand new with updated firmware but he couldn't get it to work without throwing codes), front OEM TA calipers (went with Racing Brakes fronts), OEM intake tubes (went with DSE's straight tubes), and maybe some other stuff.

I will likely get Racing Brakes to rebuild my OEM calipers (front and rear) and keep them. I suppose I should keep tail light panel and original brake ducts. They are light. Any reason to keep the flywheel, crank, or cam? I guess I will sell the Autoblip, PM me if interested. I guess I will also keep the OEM cats and exhaust manifolds although I'm not sure why.

I'd keep the original parts if you ever intend to sell. Some people are sticklers about the car being original. If not, ok to purge. I think we all accumulate things we think we "may need" and never ever use. We're you able to purchase OEM brake ducts and license surround parts through a dealer?

George , absolutely keep all the parts , there is no good reason to get rid of any parts on a unique Viper.

So many folks want all the bits and pieces when they get a Viper and some folks take it to the extreme --- they even want every piece of paper ,etc. that come with the machine. That kind of desire for documentation with many folks, gives you an even clearer reason why parts should stay in most cases.

Carbon brake ducts were from Woodhouse. Tail light panel from Prefix. Thing about some of the parts is that they won't or can't ever be used again without a major investment. Going from an 8.4 to a 9.0 was not cheap. Using the Crank or Cam would require going back to an 8.4 liter motor. I don't even know if that is possible to do. If it is it would be hugely expensive. Would be cheaper to just buy a brand new complete 8.4. The Crank and Cam are heavy and I kind of hate the idea of storing them knowing I will never use them. Exhaust and brakes I will likely keep, they don't take up as much space.

George, I generally would fall into the camp of everyone else here, but think the prospect of selling your car to a "stickler" type of collector that needs every last piece of protective plastic that delivered with the car is probably gone. I think the car still has tremendous value, but it won't be to someone that wishes to return it to stock. Even if this is a barn find 60 years from now, the fact that the original crank cannot be located will not be very significant. I'm like you -- I hate clutter and rather get rid of things that I have no use for.

If it were me, I'd only keep the stuff that could actually go back on the car in its current configuration.

Out of what you listed, that would be:

Front and side brake ducts, black standard tail light panel, front OEM TA calipers, OEM intake tubes. If you have room for the other stuff, great, but it is highly unlikely it would ever be useful to anyone that buys your car in the future.

I still have the original exhausts from two different Gen 2 GTS's in my crawlspace because I wanted to "hang on to them just in case" after I put Corsa's on.
Thirteen years ago....lol. Those "stickler" guys can buy their own replacements IMO.

I'd hang onto them too, just in case. Apply a light coating of oil and seal them in plastic bags.

As far as the "selling an all-original car" thoughts, I'm not thinking George is going to "un-9-liter" it should he decide to sell. But if that day ever comes, I think it would look good to have all those parts available to go with the car. The new buyer may not want a trailer full of take-offs, but at least it would be their choice to make.

Also, holy crap on your mods list. It doesn't sound like there's anything original left!!! We better see some photos of that thing on the track!

As I said, with scarcity of Viper parts, keep 'em...someone may be willing to pay you in the future. Unless you have no spare space, you have nothing to loose.

Usually I say keep but in your case no future purchaser of your car needs the parts or could ever use it

I say get rid of it now or store it for years and then get rid of it after you sell the car . Either way you are getting rid of it so why not now

George, what if one morning you wake up and decide to buy a "real" TA? You might just need some of those parts for it down the road.

Or you could maybe make a piece of art out of that crank!

Funny Bruce "real TA". He already has the ultimate TA.

Bruce did bring up a good point should you decide to get another Gen V those part could come in handy.

I already have a 14 GTS with TA aero. The only difference is the GTS interior is nicer and I don't have the TA brakes. But you raise an interesting point. If my GTS ever needs a cam or crank I guess I could use the one out of the ACR/TA. That's a real long shot though.

Put it to you this way George, there is no way I am buying your car in the future without all the original parts in boxes.
