Wood blocks in the Trunk is this normal

    Hello everyone,

Began the install of a set of motons and I removed the trunk carpet to find a few wooden blocks screwed/glued to the trunk floor. Trying to figure out if this is a standard feature or if the original owner paid big bucks from the dealer for this option? If its neither maybe a stereo at some point?

The people on the assembly line did that to Vipers that they couldn't get within the weight distribution spec. That one must have been a little light in the rear, so they put some junk in the trunk.

The wood would do little for weight. I assume you are joking??? Just confirmng. Was someone trying to experiment reducing a resonant frequency? Maybe Ron will weigh in. Thx

Yes, it was my poor attempt at humor.

Best guess is that they were used as anchor points for holding an aftermarket stereo amplifier rack in place. As bad as it looks, you should at least be comforted that someone had the foresight to wonder what might be lurking underneath the plastic, and thought twice before just shooting some self tapping screws through the gas tank. Unfortunately their only other option was to epoxy some wood in place, so I'm going to guess that removing it might be a little difficult, hence why they are still there.

Personally, I went to great lengths to hide most all of my aftermarket stereo system, but others like to put their components on display. An aftermarket amplifier or two would be about all that would fit on that shelf and not interfere with the hatch glass. A couple of those there with a subwoofer box in the "trunk" would give a little bump to your music, if that's the sort of thing you are into. The factory stereo is anemic at best, and has no bass to speak of, at least not that can compete with the bass of the V-10.

I thought the humor was pretty good. I've seen some strange things in my years of manufacturing. Thx
